Seeing another Texotica Reverb on this page, I decided to post a thread about Texotica Reverb and amps. Sadly, Billy's not making amps or reverb units anymore to my knowledge. I was VERY impressed with him, that I bought unit number 3 from him way back in 2011. Here's mine below that I still use quite often, SN 1103. Noel was the only other member I remember also having one.

Show off your Texotica and tell your story!

I want one! If anyone is selling, let me know.

I had just been about to order the Texotica Saratoga, the 15 watt amp with tremolo, when Billy pulled production. Ended up getting a 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb instead, which I’ve since sold. Something tells me that if I’d been able to get that Texotica amp, I’d still have it.

Sean

I know I'd love to have one of his amps. I bought the reverb after talking with Billy for about a month. It was a super deal and I've always been VERY happy with it. When I finally could afford one of his amps, though, he was done. I still have my Texotica t-shirt he gave to me when I bought the reverb.

I still have mine. It's been to every Instro Summit I attended but the first, where it stayed on stage and got considerable use. It's also been on stage at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, where Paul Carson in the Atomic Mosquitos used it to great effect.

I still have mine! I'd be hard pressed to ever part with it as it's one of the best tanks I've ever heard.

You can see it in my profile pic.

So glad to see you both still have yours! Reason I posted this is because of this. Noel, do you know him? He lives in Pittsburgh!

Got mine quite a few years ago on this very forum.
Served me well, and has been used at many Surf Guitar 101 Conventions, Winter Surf Fests, and Tiki Oasis room parties, poolside shows, car show stage shows and Bali-Hai shows.
If you open yours up, you will understand why I think it's the best built of all the modern tube tanks (it's "built like a tank" sorry for the pun).

You're absolutely correct about this and pun is appropriate! This thing is built to last!

I have one! I got mine in black tolex and silver grillcloth to match most of my other stuff. I'll have to snap some pics and look for a serial number. From what I can tell, I ordered one of the last ones. He closed up shop very soon after I bought it, which is just a horrible loss. It is, without a doubt, the best sounding tank I've heard. It's definitely one of my treasures!

By the time I realized I "needed" an outboard reverb unit, Billy was putting Texotica on hold. I started scouring the internet and got crazy lucky with a craigslist ad for one IN MY HOMETOWN. I told you it was crazy lucky.

Turns out it was a custom build, with blonde side panels. I exchanged a few emails with Billy about it and he actually remembered building it... said it was one of the earlier units. I'll have to check the serial number when I get home.

It took me a while to figure out that the Bandmaster I was playing through was overkill for my needs. So, I started searching high and low for a Texotica Saratoga. All paths led back to SG101 and I got lucky again with a member selling me theirs.

I have been absolutely thrilled with both pieces of gear. Granted I am not a gigging guitarist, so they are living the easy life chilling in my basement. But they never fail to deliver when I power them up and start playing. And despite the utter shitty acoustics in my space, they sound fantastic. The Saratoga also gets loud AF, as evidenced by it's ability to keep up with me playing drums, while a proper guitarist provides the input signal.

Well enough with the teasing already, is someone gonna post some gut shots so those of us who aren't lucky enough to own one can see some circuit pron? Big Grin

Hey, Matt (and Noel!).

Ed here. Another thread I'm late to. I'll have to get the serial # after work. Love my Texotica reverb, which I've had for about six years now. Shaun Young's demo vid sold me on the thing. I was quite pleased with my purchase when I finally got to fire it up live and in person. My one regret is not going all in and getting one of the amps.

Ran's Texotica is what I used at the SG101 Convention show, when the Madeira recorded our new(-ish) live CD "Center of the Surf". There was at least one vintage unit there, but my experience with vintage unit is that they vary a great deal, and with no time to really compare them, I decided to go with the Texotica. I think I made the right decision - I LOVED how it sounded! And I love the tone of that thing on this new CD, too! So, thank you, Ran! (BTW, I do still love my Gomez G-Spring a great deal, as well as the new Surfy Bear! Lots of great choices out there now.)

Thanks Ivan, you sounded great!
BTW, I put Gibbs pans in all my tanks, including this one, that's part of the magic, BUT something about the Texotica maintains a more robust part of the dry sound that helps the guitar cut through in the mix. Sometimes other tanks sound more brittle.

Me too, Ed! I'm just sad I didn't get one of his killer amps...
