Oh man...thanks for all those glorious kick-ass guitar licks, Nokie. One of the finest guitar player ever! My 6 year old often ask me to put the vinyl on with 'I like it like that' with The Ventures.

Ha, Noel. I don't know if that was intentional, but it was a nice bit of levity at a time like this.

I hope guys like him are aware of how much enjoyment and respect the world has for them. RIP!

R.I.P Nokie.
Thanks for the music.

Nokie, Bob, Mel, and Don wrote the book on this.......

Their influence on my generation of guitarists, and many of those who followed is frankly, incalculable.

So much of his playing has been preserved for the ages.......

We are all so lucky.

God Speed, Nokie.

Eddie Katcher, forever grateful.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Everything I learned about playing guitar. I learned from listening to Ventures albums, particularly when Nokie became the lead guitarist. He was the best (and only) guitar teacher I ever had.

In 2003 I was fortunate to be on the "Surfin' to Baja" cruise to Ensenada with The Ventures and Los Straitjackets. I was able to tell Nokie that he was the reason I wanted to play the guitar and that even though he didn't know it, he was my teacher. I will never forget the smile on his face and even then, I was certain that he heard the same comment from many other guitarists over the decades.

As Eddie Katcher just so eloquently stated, "(The Ventures') influence on my generation, and many of those who followed is, frankly, incalculable".

Godspeed, Nokie. I will miss you and please give my best regards to Mel and Bob!

Thank you Nokie. RIP.

There are few people you can genuinely call a legend or a giant. Nokie was one of them. Thanks for all the really great music. RIP.

It is very sad news to hear of Nokie's passing today. He was such an influence on so many of us. I still marvel at the finesse he infused in all of his playing, whether it was a simple tune or one of his many show-stopping pieces.

I was fortunate enough to have seen him in performance many times including those at the Palomino, NAMM show, Trancas (Malibu) and at the Gibson Amphitheater. He always made the most impressive figure - standing tall in his black cowboy hat and letting his fingers fly whilst flashing the most friendly of smiles. And a friendly fellow he was, always accommodating of us fans.

Being a complete fanatic of his playing manifested itself in my choosing the Nokie name as tribute in my SG101 moniker some years ago. Over the next few days I'll be listening to so many of my favorites from his catalog - there's very little of his recorded output that I don't have in my collection. I will forever be inspired by those recordings. RIP Nokie!

Along with Danny Gatton, I'm gonna miss this guy. I'm breaking out the Hitchhiker guitar tonight for a memorial "Walk,Don't Run".

A sad day, but his legacy will be a lasting one, through the music he leaves behind and the influence he has had on all of us.

I knew that. It just struck me since of course he was known for instrumental music.
Anyway, I'm really saddened by this myself. So glad I was able to see him play several times over the years. One of my favorite times was when the Insect Surfers opened for them at a small club in DC in the early 80's.
RIP Nokie
