NAD reissue Fender Deluxe Reverb

Twinreverb Joined: Dec 22, 2007 Posts: 216 Schenectady	Posted on Oct 26 2017 06:25 PM I sold my Vox AC30HW2 because of the weight and I was looking for a smaller Amp. So I bought a reissue Fender Deluxe Reverb in Surf Green. I also traded my two guitars for a 1995 PRS Custom 22 so for those who own a reissue Deluxe Reverb what Mods would be good? Here is the picture of the Amp and Guitar. — Lou D Top

Play through it for a while and if you decide there is something about it you are not happy with come back and tell us what it is. I put a JJ in v-2 in mine and couldn't tell any difference. I tried a Weber F-150 and prefered the stock speaker, although I would like to hear it with a Jensen C-12n. Top

When I had my Tone King Imperial the sound was great and that Amp blows the Fender away I should have kept the Tone King. There is one thing that I really don't like about the Fender it's the Cheap parts they use in this Amp. — Lou D Top

Yes, by all means play it at volume before you start tinkering; have a fun practice. The PCB-based DRRI and the Tone King are apples/oranges in terms of construction, and resultant cost. Many amps can benefit from tailoring tubes, particularly output tubes, to get what you want. But to decide on that one should get a chance to play it at volume. The Weber sounded too bright and harsh to me, partly because I was not used to such a bright scooped amp. I put the Jensen in and it tamed the brightness but had no particular character. I put the Weber in a cab to use with a darker amp which worked quite well, and now it is well broken in. So I should try putting the Weber back in the DRRI to see how it sounds to me now, which I have been meaning to do, just needed a push like yours and a bit of spare time. I've got one & the reverb stopped working after 3 years. Fender replaced it under 5-yr warranty. No problems since & the amp works really well with effects pedals. We did take a look at the "broken" reverb unit & the parts they used were far inferior to the older 60's models. A "pricey" alternative is to have your amp tech (or yourself) replace the printed circuit board with a hand wired one. It's just my opinion but I feel this would be a good alternative. I agree w/"TwinReverb" on this in that they use cheap parts. Top

I played the Amp today at band practice and we played about 4 hrs. The guys in the band said that the Amp sounded good. I did not think that it sounded that good. One thing was this I kept changing the Rotary control on my PRS Custom 22 trying to find the right sound on the guitar. I thought about returning the Amp to Guitar Center but after reading the post on another Forum I'm going to keep the Amp. The speaker sounds fine and I do like the Reverb and Tremolo I just have to give the Amp more time to break in. One other thing I was thinking about is this would a Telecaster or Stratocaster be a better match with the Deluxe Reverb? — Lou D Top

It seems that a lot of players that have the Deluxe Reverb Amp play Telecasters thru the amp With the band I'm in there very little Surf and so far the only song we have played is (Wipeout). We would like to do Beach Boys but the vocals are not there yet. I think to do the Mods that I want to do is going to be to much money. I would have to gut the Amp and it's not cost effective. — Lou D Top

I used my PRS Custom 22 and a Fender American Standard Telecaster both guitars sounded great thru the Twin Reverb the Super Reverb needed a little work.. Then I played both guitars thru my Deluxe Reverb and I used the second input on the Reverb side and now I know that I had made the mistake of using the first input the second on sounds great with my PRS. I'm still going to do some up grades to the Amp over a long period of time. If that does not happen then I would go with the reissue Fender Twin Reverb. — Lou D Top

Occam's Razor. I should've thought of that. That's the purpose of that 2nd input, to accomodate pickups with more output - like humbuckers. Standard stuff on most Fender amps, both sides (the TRRI is the same, etc). If you’re looking to buy a Tele, just do it. Otherwise, twist all the knobs until you get close enough. My .02. Ps: I love a Tele. It’s (several of them) are my main guitar(s). Top

I don't think that cost effective to do the Mods I want to do. The three thing that I do like about the Amp is the Color Reverb and Tremolo. I think they are over priced because you are paying for the name and Fender is so big I don't think they care about the product they put out. If they did they would not use Sub Standard parts in there Amps. There is one Fender Amp that I like it's the Vibro-King 60 Watts 3x10 Reverb and Tremolo and Hand Wired. — Lou D Top
