Just heard that first wave legend Gil Orr of The Chantays and Duo Tones fame has left this world. Crying

Make an extra effort to get out and support the living legends while you still have the chance!

Go in peace. Play along side the Angels, and surf a cloud or two if you get the chance. Thank you sir.

Cool

Aw that's bad news. One of my fondest California memories was watching Gil and PJ perform at Don The Beachcombers after a convention... maybe 2009.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Truly sad news! Some of my most enjoyable surf shows were Gil and PJ playing together, acoustically, or electrically. Gil was a rare talent. RIP.

Bob

My sympathies to all the family.

Such a shame. A very nice guy. He really enjoyed playing, he was always smiling from ear to ear when I saw him playing with PJ.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

He was one of the greats of our time.
I loved his style.

Thanks for the music Gil.
RIP

Great guy, wonderful guitar player. He could play anything. I was lucky enough to do several gigs with him over the years. Probably the most fun was just sitting around San Onofre on a Wednesday afternoon playing "Scotch and Soda" and a bunch of '50's tunes. Vaya con Dios, Gil.

Wow.....just wow. I was saddened and shocked to read this sad news. I was also at the 2009 post-convention get together at Don's and was mesmerized by Gil and Paul's guitar virtuosity. A night that I will now cherish in my memory forever.

Godspeed, Gil. You are most assuredly one of the greats and I wish you the best in your afterlife.

I was there in '09 as well. This indeed sad. We are losing far too many, too quickly. Cry

Oh man. So sorry to hear this. VERY glad that I got to meet him and watch him play with The Duo-Tones many moons ago! Sweet man and a hell of a footprint on our little world. RIP indeed!

A sad day. Like others I was lucky enough to meet him and hear him play with Paul Johnson and others over the years. Good bye old friend.

Happy Sunsets!

Feeling extremely saddened by this news...but, feeling fortunate to have known Gil and to have shared a stage with him. One of the nicest guys, for sure.

Thank you for all the music and your positive waves.

Rest in peace Gil.

Condolences to Gil's family and loved ones and to Paul, his "Duotones" partner. A bandmate and I were fortunate to see the Duotones play on two different occasions in Northern California. We now sometimes perform as a duo thanks largely to their influence, although we don't come close to playing anywhere near the level that those guys could play. They had a chemistry between them that made them extremely fun to watch. Gil will be missed by all of those who knew or saw him.
