I don't know what it is but somehow I'm destined to obtain blue sparkle vintage instruments (i.e., my blue sparkle '65 Fender Mustang). Here's my new sparky - a '62 Fender Jaguar. The seller, Olivia's Vintage, took extensive photos - I have a lot of gut shots if people want to check them out, go to my Imgur account (surfingdwarf):
There are some minor cosmetic issues that I may as well leave alone for historical purposes / "character" (even if it is a minor annoyance like an individual's name and SSN scratched into various places on the guitar) unless the general consensus here is that these issues are worth fixing. From the seller:
... would like to present this original 1962 Fender Jaguar that has been professionally refinished by Indy String Theory in Indianapolis. Some of the original factory paint left on the underside of the neck plate and tremolo plate indicate that this Jaguar may have originally been one of Fender's rare Blue Sparkle Jaguars. It has a great playing neck with good frets. It's all original with the exception of the body's finish and the face of the headstock, the jack, one ground wire, and the windings on the original pickups as they have been professionally rewound by Lindy Fralin. It is also 100% complete along with its original tremolo arm. A nice later hardshell case is included. A social security number has been etched into the back of the headstock and on one of the control plates. A name has been etched into the pickguard. Other than that, this vintage Jaguar looks great with only cosmetic wear. The guitar itself remains structurally sound with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The two-position tone switch is not working, but all other electronics work and sound great.
I'm not sure if they just weren't familiar with Jaguars, but all switches are in good working order.
I've already removed the original pickguard and original bridge and have store them safely and securely if there comes a day when I have to let this one go. I've already put on a Mustang bridge and it's working fine - I may upgrade to a StayTrem at some point. I'll probably get either a black or pearloid pickguard to keep the focus on the sparkle.
The blue sparkle is quite extraordinary; blue-green (aqua) in the right light.
