Urgent Update regarding Paul Johnson show this weekend!

With regards to the show at Alva’s Showroom on May 7th. Paul Johnson has some health issues and probably won’t be able to attend the performance. The full History of the South Bay Surf Sound will have to be postponed to another date when Paul is healthy. The show will go on with the Belairs & Eddie & The Showman tribute performances with John Blair and Matt Quilter at the helm. The Halibuts will still be performing a set for the first time in 12 years. The show will go on! Any donations to Paul and his recovery can done at the show. The show was sold out as of last week but call for reservations (310 519 1314) to be sure.

Thanks for the information, Jeff. Nice to see Paul Johnson and the Halibuts back performing in the South Bay. Reservation made.

Hell yeah! Right in my town to boot!

Alvas Showroom is such a great venue. Assuming they haven't changed anything in the past few years (my son played a gig there in a Jazz guitar ensemble), the space is marvelous, the sound system transparent, the lighting excellent, the stage is set up for dance performances and works well for music groups. Be sure to buy a tutu next door.

Yes Alvas began as a dance/ballet supply store many years ago. Originally called Rosalie & Alvas, their son is an avid musician/fan and added music gear to their inventory. The music side of the biz grew to where it's now (in my opinion) the best in the South Bay area. Yes there's still a dance supply section if you need to pick up a tutu or some tap shoes (Jeff?) but the gear selection is top shelf. Eventually they bought the space next door which houses the performance space and a ballet school upstairs. Acoustically it's one of the best music venues I've ever heard, and small enough where there isn't a bad seat in the house. If you're anywhere near San Pedro you need to get down here for this!

I saw a Tiki/Exotica band there. Great music venue.
I went a little early to see the music store.
As Bill says, top shelf store.
Way bigger than I thought it would be.

Jeff, that reminds me, that I once did a write up on how Blues Brothers would have been, if it had been about surf music. The car would have been a hearse of course and Cab Calloway's part would have been played by Dick Dale.

Also, great to see the Halibuts back at it!

"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

I love that image - I could see a 48" JBL on top of the hearse.
What a great show this should be!
