Permalink Anyone Using Traynor Amps?

New Topic

I have a '70's Traynor Bassmaster that is loud and clean and with an outboard reverb tank (Real Tube Stereo Reverb) and a cab with JBL's or an EVM 12L makes my Fender amps jealous.

It just dawned on me that it might make a great surf amp. And they can usually be found fairly cheaply. I understand that the reverb is different from a Fender and the power tubes are EL 34's. Just curious if any of you guys have given them a spin.

I'd love to try one out but I'm not in the market for another huge loud amp. I just got a Ceriatone Lead&Bass 20w head that is a real kick in the head but not for surf - too dark and compressed, makes reverb sound bad. Traynors are badass. Loud as hell and clean like Hiwatt.
What about Sunn0)))?

Squink Out!

For a handful of years, I used a Traynor YCS50. A solid, 50w powerhouse of an amp that had a nice midrange but not the Fender cleans I craved. Perhaps if I wasn't so 'if it ain't Fender, it ain't quite right for surf' at that time, I would still be playing it and enjoying it.

I'd love to try one out, but not many made it to this side of the border.

I had two for a while. One came with a 6 x 10" cab that I sold to a bass player. Traynors are funny. They have EL 34's but don't quite sound like a Marshall. They're right between a Brit and an American amp, which makes them Canadian. Big Grin

My other EL 34 amp is a Rivera. I need to plug it into my JBL cab and give it a go.

I agree that a Dual Showman and a Reverb Tank is the gold standard, but it's always good to see what else is out there once in a while.

TRAYNOR YBA2B 1x15 20 watt sealed back combo
This is my home amp and I love it ...gets pretty crunchy when cranked but it sounds great at medium volume .
Ive played about a half dozen Bassmasters and similar heads ,usually with lotsa distortion ...loved them great amps ..I bet if you plugged into one of the lower gain inputs it would clean up nicely ....
i damn near bought a Plush amp for the same reasons...pretty much a Twin in head form
