I did like Ivan today, and loaded up a bunch of Surfaris songs while I cleaned the house. I forgot how many cool songs there are, and how many The Aquasonics played in the early years. At one time we could call up 56 songs, and 6 were Surfaris songs. That's 10%. I had kind of forgotten how much I liked them early on. That live album influenced how we would play a few other songs too.

I had to stop cleaning for a while, and played along to a bunch of them, and learned a few new ones in the process. They are all easy and fun to play.

I wish we could, that would be so much fun and we'd be honored. Unfortunately, (I won't bother you with the deatails) but we were already on board to come this year, but then Tiki Oasis changed their weekend, causing Jeff to change the weekend of the convention to a weekend that makes it impossible for us to come. We also turned down an invite to play Tiki Oasis since our first loyalty was to SG101. Believe me, if there was any way to make it happen, we would, but in the words of The Who, it's a legal matter, baby...

Thanks, Ted, I completely understand. I knew it was a long shot, but I had to try! Smile

I don't think I saw this earlier in the thread. There's a gofundme for his funeral expenses.

That live album IS good! I bought it so long ago, 1981 seemed recent. But, it's Kelly Lammers on lead guitar.

Just listening to the '81 live album, and man, it's killer! The only (small) bummer is that they didn't play more of their own originals, but everything sounds great, played with a lot of energy and conviction and very authentic tones. Don Murray on drums is fantastic, too! Though, who IS Kelly Lammers? Any relation to Fred? Big Grin

I don't know if he is related or not. The first I heard of him was the Live Surfaris album. He's on facebook.

Here's some info about the 80's Surfaris by Bob Berryhill.

**"We played together from about ’62 to ’66 and then we basically broke up. The original group. Jim Pash [Surfaris saxophonist] kept the group on and got some other people together and played and recorded.

We’ve gotten together again last year. This is our one-year anniversary. We got together a year ago. Right now we have Jim Pash (sax), Jim Fuller is playing bass. I’m playing rhythm guitar and lead. Then we have Kelly Lammers — who was a devotee of ours back in the early days — started playing about 1966 with us.

We’re using Don Murray on drums. He was the original drummer with The Turtles. He was in a group before that called The Crossfires, which was a surf band, which turned into be The Turtles. We’re doing a pretty good sound right now."**

Here's Scattershield from the '81 live album - I like the sound effects! Yeah, they're a bit cheesy, but so what! Also, here's Point Panic, and the excellent Nobles medley - Earthquake/Hiawatha!
