Permalink Is Pandora still relevent?

A few months ago we were talking with some local friends about whether they listen to Pandora. Surprisingly, several in the group do on a regular basis. More ladies than guys, and usually when they are getting ready for work or to go out. So I listened to a surf mix, and I submitted our two EPs. This morning I was listening to our "channel" and it was pretty cool. Not only have I heard several SG101 bands over the past week (Messer Chups this morning), but the algorithm put The XX and Nice Cave in my mix, which was nice.

Anyway, technology apps come in and out of favor so fast. I was curious if anyone had any positive experiences as a result of being on Pandora. It was very easy to submit music, which I understand from older threads here, was not the case in the past.

For me, I couldn't get into Pandora. I find iTunes, Spotify and Mixcloud much better.

I think Pandora still works for people who have trouble with those other websites interface, which more than one has confessed to me. I think some people like the spontaneity of a radio-like format.

I'm back playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta

I alternate among Pandora, I Heart Radio, Sirius XM, TuneIn and my iPod. Pandora is pretty good even with commercials. I've created about 20 stations and often run it on random.

Happy Sunsets!

Pandora never was relevant, in my opinion. I hate the platform, the selection, and the model.

It is a causal background music machine.

A Pandora station based on my own band's music has brought me to discover other bands whose music I like.

Apple Music FTW! I am intrigued by Pandora's algorithm. Beyond that, meh.

A recent experience with Pandora's algorithm:

I ask it to play Frank Sinatra
It played Frank Sinatra Christmas tune (after the new year)
It played Tony Bennett
It played Lady Gaga (who had an album with Tony Bennet)
It played Katy Perry (who is a modern pop star like Lady Gaga)
It played Kanye West (who is the douchiest of all douches)

F8ck Pandora. F8ck algorithms. I'll play my own music collection, thank you.

Ha!/ Ooooooof!

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I use it to play Disney and other kids stuff for my 3 year old while he is eating breakfast before school in the morning. We have a smart tv in our kitchen so I occasionally use it as a "no brainer" music source while I am cooking.

You gotta spend a little time with the thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons to help Pandora hone in on what you want. I'm generally happy with the (few) stations I created, but like others, I use it more for sonic wallpaper.

The Reverbivores - we're local favorites!

I have a WD box that I use to stream to my home stereo system ....it came with Pandora loaded on it. I use it ever once in awhile on the weekends when I turn the TV off and just listen to stereo all day. If you tell it to play Los Straitjackets and similar, it will generate a variety of pretty decent instro tunes all day. Like mention above, using the thumbs up/down will fine tune the selections and weed out the clunkers.
