We do a version of "Lonely Bull" loosely based on the Huevos Rancheros treatment with some reverb, slight distortion and tremolo. Fun to play and it really sounds good.

How about you?

"Moon Dawg" by the Beach Boys or "Moon Dawg 65'" by Davie Allan & the Arrows. There are certainly more "reverby & drippy" surf songs to play but these are just a lot of fun.... 4 sure Smile

Right now it's Stampede. It does change quite often

Star Trek First Contact Main Title....

Jack the Ripper. We never play it the same way twice. We play with changing the tempo and dynamics of different parts of the song. The drummer leads us through it.

Ali Baba is the one I keep coming back to. So many ways to play it, from the spartan Dave & The Customs version to the balls-out, wall of sound onslaughts of The Treblemakers and Fifty Foot Combo. Simple but exotic, and always fun.

Fadeaway. Laika and the Cosmonauts.

I often play it when jamming with non-surf musicians because it is easy to shout out the rhythm chords and they always think it sounds really cool.

Sets the hook on Surf music.

First one's free kid...

"The Pier," hands down.

Over the hills and far away.

Favorite surf tune: rhino chaser or cosmos954

"Mr. Moto." One the finest crafted instros ever. It's generally the first thing I knock out every morning when I stumble over one of my guitars lying around. Apparently it was one of Rip's favorite go-to tunes to noodle around with as well.

I'm a big fan of "Bulldog" too but that has nothing to do with any great love for the Georgia Bulldogs. Oh and how 'bought them Dawgs this year? Tech 28, Georgia 27. I am the only Tech fan in a family loaded with dawgs. Yeah baby! Life is good.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

No particular favorite for me but for the last couple years when I sit down to play for myself, just relaxing enjoyment, I quite often end up playing an Instro version of the classic "You Belong To Me" as covered by Dean Martin and others, especially if the guitar is vibrato equipped.
Great melodies and changes that you can do lot with.

Cool? Probably not, but I'm a sucker for those old melodies.

Cheers,
Jeff

No- Definitely cool. Old melodies is where to learn about melody. I just youtubed You Belong to Me (not the Elvis Costello tune) and it would be gorgeous fun play and oh yeah, bend those notes up and down and all around.

I have another that's tremendous fun and will be covered by moi in an upcoming album- #4 I believe. I'd tell you all about it but I dare-sent tip my hand. I will say that girl groups got a lot and a lot of what they got is really hot.

Toss up between Surf Party and Point Break--two very different songs.
