Well the dust is finally setteling, and I'm still very blown away!
We had the good fortune, honor and pleasure of playing with some amazing bands. First was opening for Dick Dale at Daryl's house, Then getting to play with Messer Chups and The Primitive Finks the next night, then playing with The Clams in CT, Then Dick Dale again in Brooklyn, and lastly Messer Chups again last night in Philly with The Black Flamingos and The Primitive Finks. Wow! The crowds were fantastic and we sold tons of merch, and made some new friends.
All of the bands were brilliant. There's nothing I can really add about Dick Dale other than it's an absolute honor to warm up the stage for a total legend and the forefather of surf music. The guys in his band are really cool people too. Sam is the man! And Lana has been very nice to us (she sent us t shirts, cd's, and signed picks when we first played with him 2 years ago).
The Primitive Finks are a very cool band and play a great mix of Surf and Psychobilly/Rock n Roll. You should definitely check these guys out. They really rock!
The Clams from CT are also a good bunch of guys and do great versions of many of the first wave classics. A very tight and underrated band! They also bring along two very lively and animated Go-Go dancers.
You really have to check out the Black Flamingos. They do an excellent version of 'Theme from the Traitors" by the Original Checkmates. Another bunch of great guys. Rob the guitarist is outstanding. Vincent their drummer put together some of these gigs as well as the Asbury Park Surf Fest simultaneously! He's also a great drummer. A real asset to our scene!
Most of you already know what a kick ass band Messer Chups is. They also happen to be super nice people and great fun to hang with! Oleg is a killer guitarist and made my amp sound better than I ever could, Boris is a super tight drummer and all around cool guy, and Svetlana is a real sweetheart in addition to being a great bass player. I hope we can play with them again in the future. They're planning on coming back next year in the fall.
Again, I'm totally blown away and am going to need some serious recovery time!
