Thanks... So you have a mosrite?

When I started this thread over 4 years ago, I only had a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster of the 4 guitars listed for the poll. Now I also own a Stratocaster and a Mosrite and although I really like both of them, I still favor the Jag and JM for surf.

I own two Jazzmasters one is a vintage 66 Jazzmaster with binding also I have a 66 Jaguar.. Tha Jaguar is my pick for surf and I just love the 24" scale because it makes for a deep chunky tone that my jazzmasters can't reproduce ..image

Yeah. I just picked up a NOS Excellent '65.

Klas, you know I loved Jaguars for a long time. They were all I had for awhile. I did find them rather useless for anything outside of surf music.

My Take on the Jaguar.. The guitar is totally tone specific, killer for surf and not bad for Jazz.. I play in a many different bands that all require a different tone signature so thats why I have so many different guitars! Id love to own a Mosrite in that same color too!!

Really dig my SGV's!

I have an Excellent '65 in sunburst too, fantastic guitar with many applications.

Those guitars are really cool too!!! I bet they sound killer through your Gomez...!!!

I think everything sounds better through a Gomez, haha... kind of hot pickups, if you like that type of thing.

Yeah, I remember Bill. I only use my Jaguar for surf music and have other guitars for other styles. Currently with our recently launched side projects I use a Mosrite with The Angry Breed, a Stratocaster with The Excelsiors, and a Hagström Viking and a Jazzmaster with The Royal Vikings.

I have a love-hate relationship with Mosrites. I love Mosrites and hate the sound about 2/3 of the people get when they use them. (The other 1/3, though, heavenly.) I know of no other guitar that can sound so awful and so wonderful, depending. On what, I have no idea. Amps? Picks? Laughing

I'm a month into the Mosrite experience. It's both the easiest guitar and the weirdest guitar I've ever played. The thin neck feels weird both profile and nut width wise. My hands aren't massive but I'm going to guess larger than average. So it's a little weird… but Semie and Nokie were both big guys and seemed to do alright on these guitars. The one plus for me is that I'm able to get the action set super low. I play with a really light touch and I've got the string height at about 1MM above the 12th fret. A feat near impossible on any of the 7.25 radius Fenders I owned in the past.
This is the only guitar I've used with round wound 9s that actually sounds good in the surf application(although there are those here who would probably wouldn’t find the new Aquanauts as surf). I’d have had a ton of problems putting 9s on my old Jaguars and having them sound as good as the Mosrite w/ or w/out reverb. I toyed with the idea of submitting to the surf trend and picking up a Jazz or Jaguar as a #2. But after talking with King of the Strats Ivan. I just ordered a ’62 RI. My original recasting of the Jaguar to Mosrite vote stands.
