Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet came on my Space Cossacks pandora channel yesterday....the song was called Zombie Compromise I believe.....WHAT A GREAT BAND!!! Im now hooked and have listened to just about every video youtube has to offer me lol. That particular song I mentioned above is probably one of the best intros to ever grace me ears. Apparently released in 88,i was born in 87 and im just now catching up,im glad i did!!!

If you want the ultimate, you gotta be willing to pay the ultimate price.

That's a great song and great album!

They're not a f****ing surf band Smile But, as Ted notes, a great band!

Rick

Great band. Having an average weekend was the theme for a sketch comedy show called Kids in the hall. That was my first exposure to them.

Hahaha I knew I'd get hit with that! I wouldn't say they are completely surf....this is true, however they have some heavy surf influence in a lot of their works. Gotta give credit where it's due, those guys are nothin but good!

Completely agree! I'm guessing from lookin at your signature you are a member of Satans Pilgrims? You guys are awesome too! I'm always browsing youtube videos of surf music and always jump between you guys, atomic mosquitos, space cossacks and slacktone (just to name a few). Vampiro is by far one of my favorites, the drip in that song is rad!!!

Yes, I am, thanks! Even though they may not have been a surf band, that first album, and that song in particular, were both very influential to us in the early days. Not just musically, but philosophically. They weren't a peg that fit into a certain hole, they were simply Shadowy Men playing Shadowy Men music. They helped us have the courage to be true to ourselves and have our own identity in the surf/instrumental landscape of the 90s, for better or for worse. Smile

Very cool you found them.
If you like them, Look for another Canadian band Huevos Rancheros.
Not the same, but I think of them together as they were both non surf but instro.
You might want to edit the title of this thread, and say it's a review of
The band for others to know.

Great, great band in its' very own way and a true inspiration for the stuff I am trying to do with Los Apollos. Shadowy Men always managed to make highly original, catchy songs without being overly "progressive". They just developed a (seemingly) simple style of their own and went with it.

I also liked the spin off called Atomic 7, althoug that was a little less magical.

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

Shadowy Men still play very occasionally with Dallas Good on bass (the Sadies) Reid Diamond, the original bassist, passed away several years ago.

I'm gonna differ with Simon. I prefer the Atomic 7, but saying that can be blasphemous in Canada :-). Both bands are great.

Jeff had an excellent recommendation for you with Huevos Rancheros (play very rarely now days). Brent Cooper, the guitarist, has a more active band called The Ramblin' Ambassadors that I also prefer...

Yep, they even wrote a song about it.

People frequently mention Atomic 7. But I have rarely seen mention of the post Shadowy Men band PHONO COMB. I absolutely love their album Fresh Gasoline. The one they did with Jad Fare...not so much.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

Yep, Phono Comb was kinda the bridge between Shadowy Men and the Sadies as well as Atomic 7.
