If great whites, those would be juveniles. I wonder how often sightings of other sharks are called great whites in media reports, since there are others indigenous to the area. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

Back in the mid 90's to around 2000 I spent much time surfing in SoCal. I hardly ever heard of reports of Great Whites patrolling the surfline. Now, they are there and in relatively large numbers. Beware! —Last edited: Jun 16, 2015 10:56:59 |

Thanks for that; now there's a great use of a UAV. And good point; even a "teenage" white can ruin your day. —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

"It is unclear why the sharks are swimming closer to shore or have been in the area recently." They are sharks. They live in the water, it's where they should be! I'm guessing the sharks are often there, but without drones and helicopters, would they have been seen. Sometimes ignorance is bliss! — |

The sharks are a promotion for the new release of Jaws, duh! They are really dumb and they pay them chum. — |

That shark-munched board is classic! She should put it in the wall of her surf shak. I don't think such a juvenile and abortive nibble qualifies as an 'attack'. By the same token, pretty much all shark bites are accidental as the preferred morsel is seal. I'm sure the rubber part doesn't taste good. Hope Junior spit out his mouthful of fiberglass. — |

Sharks. We have 'em here. They keep the tourists out of the bars. Kidding only! Great whites, Bull sharks, several varieties of Hammerheads, Dogfish, Makos......They live in the ocean---I mean! Just don't feed the things!! —Enjoying the surf, sun and sand!! |
