Too cool! Glad I asked.

Like I mentioned, I wasn't happy with the SD Broadcaster bridge pickup. The output just wasn't a good match for the Surf 90 in the neck; too weak & thin. I got a new GFS Fatbody 10K overwound installed today, and it's the bomb; great balanced output in all the switch positions for some really sweet sounds. The Fatbody, palm-muted on the low E though my 6G15 is to die for; extra drippy.

Fantastic! Just caught wind of this thread.
I like the broadcaster pickups usually. What value pots were you using? I'm sure the p90 wants 500k will make the bridge thin sounding unless you add a resistor so it 'sees' 250k.
Great job, and I love the color.

Thanks; it was a fun build. I'm using CTS 250K pots with a .047 Orange Drop cap, my usual setup for single coils. I also just strung it with flatwound 12s, after checking the setup with some old 9s; I don't want to put those $14 strings on until I know everything's OK!

This one joins my other surf guitar, a heavily modded Squier CV50s Strat. All the electronics have been replaced with USA stuff, including Fender 57/62 pups, a heavy MIM bridge, master volume & tone, Gotoh vintage tuners and flatwound 11s.

Now if I could only PLAY better!

Great job beerbelly!
Now less building and more playing!

Pihabeach82 - that's not actually a P-90 in construction or sound.
The 90 in the name is misleading. The alnico poles make it much clearer sounding and 250k pots work just fine with them. FWIW.

Cheers,
Jeff

Ah ok, then it's probably all good with 250k pots. I remember making a tele with a p90 neck and that was so fat and dark it really 500k pot. Sounded great with a broadcaster bridge once I'd sorted out the resistor mod.

Cheers,
Jeff

The VOXcaster is for sale if anyone's interested; I have another guitar build I want to fund. Added a vinyl logo to the headstock, which can be easily removed if you don't care for it.

$500 + free shipping.

I have shipped many guitars and know how to package them well.

I'll also post this in the classifieds here. Thanks
