Are we in agreement that a true bypass pedal will not ruin the sound of a following fuzzbox as long as it’s not on?

People run drives into fuzzes for additional/different gain all the time.

That is my understanding. Some simple fuzz circuits (the Fuzz Face is a perfect example) have a low impedance input and work best when fed a high impedance signal, i.e. straight from your guitar. Any active effect placed before such a fuzz pedal will output a low impedance signal -- and in the case of a Boss-style buffered bypass pedal, even when it's off. This will cause the fuzz to sound quite different. Now a true bypass pedal, when bypassed, is essentially a short length of wire, i.e. it doesn't alter the signal's impedance, so it won't "ruin" the sound of your fuzz.
All fuzz circuits aren't designed equal. Some will be dramatically affected by a low impedance signal, some moderately, and for some the input signal's impedance won't make any audible difference. And then of course tone is a subjective matter, and some people will prefer the treble boost they get from a mismatched input impedance.
Here is a very interesting article by FX guru Jack Orman about this phenomenon, and a schematic for a very clever (yet simple) DIY device he calls a Guitar Pickup Simulator to unbuffer your low impedance signal before a touchy fuzz.

Jester, how are you digging the Belle Epoch Deluxe? What amp are you playing thru? I just picked up a CB Fuzzrite from a guy at work for $85. Cant wait to play "who's gonna mow your grass"

I am playing theough the different backlines. Most are 4x12 stacks into clean channels.that's why I use overdrives as always on for some grit and tone shaping.
As for BED, it's a nice pedal. It has more clarity in preamp and more "in your face" repeats, the regular belle epoch.
I like regular setting and setting with rotary for some dreamy sounds. Also, I tuned second knob not for oscillations, but just for long long trails.
Is it worth $330? I do not know. If you need just nice delay for occasions or nice slapback, I think regular Belle Epoch is enough. But BED is nice pedal.

Topanga for reverb, that's it.
Three years and five days hence from my last post to this thread a few things have changed. The Topanga hasn't gone anywhere, it's still the best Surf reverb I've heard this side of a tank. YMMV. I have added a TC Electronics Hall of Fame Mini, which is great when I want a more restrained reverb sound.
It's a one-knob pedal and sounds great for general use and even surfs nicely in the upper ranges. It's programmable, but the stock hall-reverb is quite impressive. For something the size of a Snickers bar, it's very impressive.
I've also done some experiments with delay. I have a Boss/Roland RE-20 tape echo emulator, a Boss DD-5 digital delay and a MXR Carbon Copy, all of which I use at various times. My biggest problem with any of these is that they are "fiddly", requiring some tweaking, which I hate to do on stage. In fact, the main reason I added the HOF Mini was so that I could keep a Surfy, Drippy preset in the Topanga and switch over to a tamer reverb sound without twiddling knobs. Delays are even more complicated.
I'm waiting for the Stanley-FX Blue Nebula pedal. It has storage for 128 presets and have all sorts of tape delays, reverb, tremolo, chorus, etc. which means that I can come up with presets for anything I might want. There are built-in presets for many Hank Marvin songs.
I don't think that I'll be using it for drippy Surf, but I'll experiment, perhaps it'll drip. In any event, having presets will make life better.

I figured with all the great info here rather than start a new thread I would ask for some guidance on some pedals.
Since I'm only an advanced beginner-intermediate player and don't play "out" I only have two pedals, a Danelectro FAB Chorus and a Danelectro FAB Echo (3 if you count a Death Metal Distortion pedal which I never use that was included in an amp purchase) but am looking for a budget "Fuzz" pedal to use when playing Lenny Kravitz's version of "American Woman" and Smashmouth's "Walkin' On The Sun". Will the Danelectro FAB Fuzz get me close? My amps are a Hartke G15R and a Crate GT80-DSP (12" speaker) which has fantastic (at least to me) reverb.

For $20 new, I don’t think you can go wrong.
I wouldn’t even be shy about rattle canning it if the purple bothered you at that price.

Thanks, the purple doesn't bother me. What I have seen while looking online for reviews is a cottage industry or sub-culture of Danelectro FAB Series pedal modifiers, it seems they are quite popular and with a minimum of tweaking can be made to produce some superb tones at a budget price. Sadly a majority of my playing is done with either a Vox AC30 or Monoprice Tube input-headphone amp.

blackheartsfan,
IMO the Joyo octave fuzz is a great bang for the buck pedal. I paid 28 bucks including shipping for mine. Metal enclosure, switch feels pretty solid and you can get a a good variety of fuzz tones from it.

Seem to be a nice combo, what do you think?)
I replaced my FRV-1 with an Oceans 11 recently and I'm pretty happy with it. I use the spring mode for surf and the plate mode for everything else.

It’s really good! Gonna use it as a backup for Surfy Bear
