Xotic - EP Booster
Spaceman - Saturn V
Ernie Ball - VP Jr.
Tuner out: Sonic Research - Turbo Tuner
Normal out: Strymon - El Capistan (+Tap/Favorite)
Strymon - Flint (+Tap/Favorite)
Gomez - G-Spring
I'm using the PedalTrain Junior and have attached In-/Output jacks to the pedalboard, so the first and last pedal don't get plugged in/out all the time. Looks good and is quite sturdy.

Anyone concerned with the degradation in tone from all the pedals? I found it to be a problem, ended up getting one of these:
http://www.tonebone.com/loopbone.php
Bypasses your pedals when you don't need them while maintaining your tone and feel of the guitar. Great product.

here are the ones i use...
pretty simple set up. Mainly Jazzmaster (troy van leeuwen) or DiPinto G4 into a Princeton Reverb-Amp RI or my old beat up '66 Princeton Reverb-Amp.
Nocturne 'Billy Brain (pre amp)
Strymon El Capistan
Catalinbread Topanga Reverb (just replaced my Boss FRV-1)
Nocturne Nail Head Trem-o-Flow
at home for quick recording and late nite playing (w/ 2 small kids in bed) i mostly use a Fender Mustang 1. with a little patience you can get some pretty nice tones at really low volumes. very pleasing for couch playing when it's late. i have a '66 Vibro-Champ that's pretty good for that too!
and it looks like i really need to get a tuner!!! and a Reverb tank would be pretty sweet too!!!

hey shake_n_stomp i noticed you're from Vancouver too, i checked out a few tunes on your FB page... pretty cool stuff! love the Go-Go Dancer!
i really liked the tone you guys had (not sure if that's you i heard) i was surprised it was a Strat (assuming it is from the pics). i could never get the sound i wanted from a Strat unless it's rock, blues, but not for intro / Surf.
what amp(s) are you using?

Hey!
First, I need to qualify that the Hang-Ten Hangmen have seen some personnel changes since summer 2014. So, depending on which videos you are seeing/hearing, it could very well be from before my time.
Likely what you were watching is the lead guitarist (who left during the summer) whose Fender clean tones are so killer - a true surf devotee who is a great player, IMO. I don't have all the specs on what amps he used but I believe it was a wheat/light brown limited edition of a Hot Rod Deluxe, among other similar-sized Fender tube combos over time. The other guitarist - still with the group - uses a standard Hot Rod Dlx.
I love the sound of Jags and Jazzmasters but one of the unifying elements in the group is to use white Strats that we coax-out surfy tones with.

Here's my Surf-only pedalboard
Korg Pitchblack poly or GFS tuner
↓
MXR 10 band graphic EQ (used as a flexible booster & to slightly correct the tone of some of my guitars). Will probably get replaced by a homemade Echoplex based booster if I ever find the time to build one.
↓
Guyatone FR-3000V tube reverb tank (Behringer RV600 Reverb Machine as a replacement)
↓
OLC Darth Fader tube tremolo pedal
↓
BBE Sonic Stomp homemade clone
I don't use fuzz or delay. Any dirt if needed comes from the booster/tank/amp combination.

Have other pedals on the board but for the surf stuff it's :
Visual Sounds H2O Liquid Chorus (delay only, short slap)
Dunlop Univibe (as a boost only, vintage button off, speed and intensity off, volume full)
Boss DM3 for heavy delays (replaced a recently sold Echoplex EP2)
'63 RI tank
in that order, also has a Cry Baby Wah , TS9 and a Fulldrive II in front of the listed stuff, but they're all bypassed for the surf stuff.

BigFoot FX Spaghetti Western Fuzz,
EHX Satisfaction Fuzz,
Danelectro Chili Dog Octave,
BBL Two Timer Analog Delay,
Boss FRV-1 Reverb,
Strymon Flint Reverb/Tremolo
Korg Pitchblack Tuner
Everything is powered by a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2.

I just got the Behringer RV600 Reverb Machine and i love the sping reverb sound! Its the most cheap solution for spring but digital sound.I use it for home practice and i am very happy with it.So if u wanna play surf, you will need a single coil guitar,a spring reverb pedal, maybe a delay-echo pedal,a clean amp and the surf feeling...

I play in a surf-inspired psychedelic/shoegazey/post-rock thing.
My board changes all the time as I rotate out old stuff for new slightly better sounding stuff. But here's what I'm currently rocking.
Turbo Tuner ST-300m
BYOC Super 8 programmable loop switcher
Loop 1: Zoom MS-70CDR for vibrato and pre-gain reverbs
Loop 2: Barber Gain Changer -> Lovepedal Les Lius
Loop 3: Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz -> Fredric Effects Foxrite (Silicon Fuzzrite clone)
Loop 4: Mr Black Gilamondo phaser
Loop 5: Catalinbread Echorec
Loop 6: Strymon El Capistan w/ Expression pedal for repeats
Loop 7: Boss LS-2 with DIY Triode Electronics 6G15 clone in loop. I use the LS-2 because it has volume boost on the FX return to bring the 6G15 to unity gain and it also makes it easier to plug the reverb unit into my chain.
Loop 8: Toneczar Powerglide tremolo (replacing with Kingsley Bard tube bias tremolo when I receive it this week)
Neunaber Slate v2 w/ ExP controller - used for non-spring verbs and end of chain buffer.
Here's a pic, ignore the Fulltone SSTE. I was just borrowing that from a friend.

Like deadlands' board, mine changes quite often as well, before it was this:

Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor
TC Electronic Spark Booster
MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay
Catalinbread Semaphore Tap Tempo Tremolo
Catalinbread Topanga Spring Reverb
Now it's:
-
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor
-
between send and return there's *
-
TC Electronic Vintage Compressor
- Xotic EP Booster
- TC Electronic Vintage Distortion
- EHX Soul Food
- Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer
-
TC Electronic Spark Booster
-
then the NS-2's output goes to *
-
Boss TU-2 Tuner
- Catalinbread Belle Epoch
- Catalinbread Topanga Spring Reverb (as backup for my tank)
- Catalinbread Semaphore Tap Tempo Tremolo
And that into my re-issue Fender '63 Reverb and into my amp

- Strymon Mobius for tremolo and rotary (rotary used when covering Los SJ's 'Tempest')>
- '63 RI Reverb
Updated:
Since moving to the new Fender '68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb amp with very nice reverb and tremolo, I have changed around some of my effects and have been using effects more sparingly. I want less stuff in the way of making my amp sounding less Fender-y
On Pedaltrain Mini board:
- JHS FireFly (ToneBender mk III fuzz) - for those garage/biker instro moments
- TC Electronic Polytune mini
- Ibanez Tube Screamer mini
- TC Electronic Spark boost mini
- Neo Mini Vent rotary
Outboard: '63 RI reverb unit w/ Korea Accutronics tank
occasional add-on: Strymon Deco for "Scotty Moore-type" tape saturation grit and rockabilly slapback echo.

Just picked up a TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb. It has a spring setting but doesn't really capture the surf sound. Great for U2/Echo and the Bunnymen kind of stuff though. Also has a "church" setting.

I really like the SolidGoldFx Surf Rider Reverb if not true fender spring reverb.
