Inspired by Chadillac's thread, I wanted to talk about Second Saturday Surf, a monthly show in Austin, TX, that I've been organizing for the past year. I've tried to make it a monthly home base for Central Texas' surf-guitar scene. The Spoils (my band), and Los SuperAvengers usually open and close the night, respectively, and we've had rotating guests including Austin's The Nematoads, The Del-Vipers, 3 Balls Of Fire, The Mighty Landshark! (now The Boss Jaguars!), The Really Rottens, The Poi Pounders, Pangia, The Gallows Drifters, Bat City Surfers and San Antonio's King Pelican, The Phantomatics and The Dead Barons.
We've got the next few months booked, but I really like Chadillac's plan to focus on bringing in out of town acts, so if anyone on the board is interested please contact me and we'll find a way to make it work. I'm more than happy to bump my band from the bill on any given month.
February 8th - Los SuperAvengers, The Del-Vipers, The Spoils
March 8th - Los SuperAvengers, The Gallows Drifters, The Boss Jaguars!
April 12th - Los SuperAvengers, The Baffles, The Spoils

Thanks Ernest, we loved having y'all up! Can I pencil you in for June?
I'm also working on a 4th of July surf BBQ, if you're interested in that. I need to confirm that my friends are ok with hosting, but they have a great space in town with a covered stage and a grilling pit, and they had a NYE party with 250+ people with a DJ playing loud music til 3am, so I think the neighbors would be no issue.

I've been to a couple of these, including King Pelican (Ernest's band; looking forward to their new release too!), and great music in a neat venue (Nomad Bar). Thanks to klob and The Spoils for organizing all of this, and hope the July 4th surf BBQ happens.

That's fantastic klob, so it can be done! I also think this is a great way to start a dialog between bands around the country, getting bands out of town, and maybe even a way of bringing more attention to our little scene.

It can definitely be done! I love the idea of getting more of these set up around the country, it would be great for surf bands to have more solid gigs in other cities to build tours around.

I've been a little swamped with my non-surf life lately, but the all reports say the Second Saturday shows have still been a lot of fun in my absence, and I'm excited to actually attend the show this weekend! Doug, drummer for The Dead Barons, will be moving out of state soon, so come out and say hi before The Nematoads and Los SuperAvengers rock yr faces!

October's show was amazing, we had a great crowd out for Kill, Baby...Kill! and they - and all the other bands - totally rocked it. Very grateful they could make the date work, given the loss in their family.
November's going to be really exciting, we have two exciting new Central Texas bands lined up! Austin's Goldbloom are a brand new surf/garage/psych group, and The Sonomatics willw come up from San Antonio with a healthy share of blues and old-time rock'n'roll to go with a ton of reverb. Bat City Surfers close out the night with a raucous surf riot, get ready!
