Don Schott WHOOO HOOOO!!! Thanks for making my weekend wonderful in so many ways. This is a really sweat surfy sounding guitar , light weight, set up very nice and lots of tonal variation. Unique looking too. Picked it up at R. Stacy Fenner's (bassman for the AmpFibians, based out of Cincinnati area on the Sunday program) house this evening. Stacy was kind to transport it and save Crispy the shipping hassles and cost. Thank you Mr. Crispy Bess for making every thing exciting and possible and this is really the coolest thing that happened to me in quite awhile. R Stacy Fenner took a photo at his house. I guess we will see that later. again...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU....MAHALO my friends! Namaste. 9 minutes ago · Like Don Schott I was thinking ... Well I guess I will have to get a case for it , but THAT IS A REALLY NICE BODY GLOVE BAG .. Lots of protection. Thanks some more. MAHALO The mighty KAHUNATONES www.donschott.com |

Congratulations to you too Noel on that nifty cool pedal win. I have heard you said it was inspiring. We can jam by e mail now, like phoning our parts in. The mighty KAHUNATONES www.donschott.com |

So that everyone knows, and to give credit where it is due, I was convincingly encouraged by Mike Rosado to play something besides Rumble at this year's Summit. I wouldn't have played anything else if he hadn't lit my fire last year. He agreed to play Phantom Mustang with me this year, and so did Carol Busbey. Then Gary Evans agreed to help me with the song. Gary enthusiastically sent me a video deconstructing the whole song in slow motion, including the rhythm part. George Dyal had previously provided the chord changes to give me a head start. Then Carol agreed to add Theme From The Endless Summer, so we had another song to perform during the Lunch Jam. And my local partner in guitar, Steve, who performed with me at last year's Ventures Fan Fest, regularly practiced both songs with me. Then, George Boccanfuso passed away, just before the Summit. After posting that he was at last surfing his endless summer, it occurred to me that this song could be dedicated to George. Carol and Crispy agreed, and then I started asking other people to participate. Johnny Kahuna was an enthusiastic first, even before he left South Dakota. I asked Phred Rawles, Jonpaul, Insect Dave, and Eddie Katcher, and they all agreed. Crispy and Don Schott decided to join. Mike couldn't play, but Sandy Rosado came up and played a lovely flute solo that was perfect for the mood established as we played. It was a magic moment. Carol, Johnny, Jonpaul, and Phred played Phantom Mustang with me as well. Only Carol and Johnny rehearsed anything with me earlier that morning, so Phred and Jonpaul had to perform without rehearsing. As usual, they were excellent. That evening, in the middle of talking to Gary Evans about playing Phantom Mustang earlier that day, I couldn't stop myself from asking him if I could play the rhythm part during their segment later that night. To my great surprise and joy, he agreed, and so did Adam and Brian. I kind of made him let me prove I could play it. And the rest is in the Summit Video Topic. But I'd be lying if I said I expected any of it to turn out so well. I'm still trying to understand the responses I received. Then Eddie Katcher completely blew my mind when he asked me to play something with The Surge! next year. I wrote this because at my first Summit, in 2012, I'd just had shoulder surgery and wasn't really playing guitar yet. In fact, I wasn't really playing guitar that well before the surgery. I had no confidence at all last year. What Mike Rosado said to me really took hold, and when Gary agreed to help me play his song, I just dug in a worked hard. I urge anyone and everyone who can, to come to next year's Instro Summit, or the next SG101 Convention, the Sierra Surf Music Camp, or whatever surf festival is near you. You never know what will happen if you do. Many, many thanks to Crispy for putting together something so amazing and special, and to everyone who made this year's Summit the most incredibly unbelievable experience I've ever had. I'm still 8 miles high. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. Last edited: May 21, 2014 20:20:49 |

Noel, it isn't as if The Summit doesn't always provide a spiritual experience for all that attend. There is certainly something about it everyone can agree upon that is just magical. But it is so awesome to have seen your experience elevated to the surreal. You are such an integral part of the current movement in this genre and we all cherish you. Here is to next year, as I really can't imagine ever skipping a year...playing or not... —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

In high school one of my friends got the Cowabunga surf box set and one of the standouts was the Insect Surfers piece "Polaris", which we would listen to on repeat. This past weekend I got to play it (along with a whole set) on stage with the Insect Surfers at Instro Summit. While I have more to say about Instro Summit and my experience, I'll do so at a later time on my blog. As if this weekend weren't enough, when I got back I got an email from one of my top 5 favorite guitarists of all time, Ivan Pongracic from the Madeira and (formerly of) the Space Cossacks, inviting me to fill in for their rhythm guitarist for a show in Milwaukee in August. All of my musical dreams are becoming reality and I'm becoming the musician I've always longed to be. I wish I could go back in time and tell high school Chad all of the things he'll get to do although I doubt he'd even believe me. I probably wouldn't have been able to do most of these things if it weren't for the Mystery Men?, who just a little over two years ago asked me if I could be a 'fill in' for Instro Summit 2012. Those guys have been like the brothers I've never had, and have nurtured and encouraged me from the start and for that, I'm eternally grateful. —The Squares - 1995-2002 |

Chad, you have earned and truly deserve all of it. You work hard at your art and you play brilliantly. You're generous and kind with your words and you look out for others to encourage and help. Nice, Chad! Huge honor to play in all three bands for sure, and well-deserved. I also have that same love for "Polaris", I was already stoked to see the Insect Surfers, but hearing it live was phenomenal! *Also wanted to add what I told Jamie already, that I really like the multi-instrumental direction you're going in The Mystery Men?. You guys just get better and better every year. —Mike Last edited: May 22, 2014 08:36:24 |

I have to call out a special "Thank you!" to Carol. She agreed last year to play something with me this year. She put up with all my, "I dunno, what do you wannna do?" back-and-forth about who plays what parts. And she generously agreed to share our songs with anyone else I asked in my throes of excitement. She even reminded me we needed a bass player and drummer. Carol plays better than I do, and not wanting to play badly with her helped motivate me to step up my own guitar playing. Thanks for everything, Carol! I seriously doubt I'd have tried to do as much as I did without your support and participation. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. Just a few pics of me with Noel and Crispy during the last day of The Summit. Big thanks to Stacy from The Ampfibians for the fun conversations and the ride back to Duke Tower after it was all over. I can't wait to see all the photos you took during all three days. I got to talk with Richard from The Mystery Men, the bass player from Crazy Aces, Johnny Kahuna, the awesome guys from The Monterreys, and both guitar players from Daikaiju. I filled up on all the Utz potato chips that I possibly could and drank beer after beer. The food at Motorco was incredible and the staff were great, too. I had a total blast. If I go back next year, I'd like to fill in as a "guest" guitar player for whoever may need one during The Summit. (Mystery Men...how about a quadruple guitar assault? I learn quick!) I'm trying to get my own surf instrumental band together here in Texas, but I STILL can't find the RIGHT guitar player that's as serious as me. Until then, I'm doing guitarist duties for my rock/metal cover band, Outspire. ("OutspireBand" on Facebook). Cheers to everyone!

WOW...the pics have taken longer than I expected. Here is the link for Friday's pics. I will have a link for all the full-res pics (for the bands to use) from Friday up soon, it takes awhile to upload them to Photobucket. Saturday and Sunday coming up! —Stacy Last edited: May 25, 2014 20:03:50 |

Gellert (SaxOnTheBeach), I had a swell time as well. I know all about trying to get my own surf band off the ground...tried for years and it never happened. I had to wait for someone to quit here in Cincinnati. Good luck in Texas!!! Thanks for a fantastic time to everyone, nothing like hanging out out with people from all over the country who love surf, what a weekend! Can't wait till next year!!!!!! —Stacy |
