Permalink Anyone here own a 50th ani Jaguar? or a Johnny Marr Jaguar?

If so... what are your thoughts?

i really like the neck on the 50th, and the pick ups on the Marr. I haven't played either yet. i hope to find one to try out soon.

anyone here own or played either of these?

I tried really hard to like the 50th Anniversary Jaguar, but it's neck was even thinner than my CIJ; too thin for comfort and my hand was so cramped from trying to play barre chords on it I just couldn't buy the guitar.

I'm told the Johnny Marr has a thicker neck, but I don't know the dimensions. Maybe Mike (morphball) could measure his?

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

I own a 50th annn and absolutely love it! It is perfect in every way for me, sound and looks. I wanted a J.M. model, but the colors were way boring to me.
I also feel the neck is a little fat compared to strats I have owned.

The neck was so thin on the one I played it felt like my index finger and thumb were nearly touching while playing barre chords. But, yeah, it is gorgeous and they do sound wonderful. I really wanted to love playing it. I'm very glad you do.

thanks guys.. kind of a tough one. i love the bound neck with block inlays... very sweet! but i like a full "C" with 9.5 radius and med jumbo frets. both sounds amazing but the Marr puck ups do have a little extra punch... i like that.

Hope i can i find these at the guitar store, i'd love to try them out.

so many cool guitars!

I’ve had a chance to test both side by side. And I went out with this one)

for me Johnny Marr pickups lacked some punch, pretty even a little compressed. 50th anniversary - Yes! Hot rod Jaguar!

I've had the Fender Johnny Marr Jag for a few years - it was a great guitar and I really loved the mid-60s C-shaped neck. It compares favorably with my '63 Jag's neck. The Bareknuckle pickups are alright, if a little darker/warmer than say the American Vintage '65 Jag's pickups. Which is why I bought a set of Fender Pure Vintage '65 Jaguar pickups and swapped out the Bare Knuckle pickups. The PV '65 Jaguar pickups work better for me with surf/instrumental as it's more mid-rangey than the BK's.

I only ended up selling the Johnny Marr Jag since I had acquired the '63 Jag, otherwise, I'd still have it. I recently got a used Squier Vintage Modified Jag for a refinishing project and put some PV '65 Jaguar pickups to replace the stock pickups. The Squier VM Jag also has a nice full C-shaped neck, similar to the Johnny Marr Jag. It's a solid, inexpensive guitar and I'm playing it as much as my '63 Jag. The Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar necks are more like Modern C (slimmer) even though they just call them "C" shaped now.

All that said, for about the same price as a new Johnny Marr Jag, maybe consider a used American Vintage '65 Jaguar on Reverb - same neck (mid-60s C) or have a look at the more expensive American Original '60s Jaguar, which also has a mid-60s C neck but with Pure Vintage '62 pickups instead of the PV '65 pickups.

Good luck in your search!

I love my Johnny Marr Jag!!
The bareknuckles are a little less hot than my 62 AVRI, but I like that! The tone is more balanced, but still has that distinctive Jaguar snap.
Overall, the tone options are cool too!!

The neck feel is like butter for my hands.

I ended up putting a Mastery bridge on it because everyone was saying how they hated the Staytrem (honestly, I could not tell a difference!)

It quickly became my go-to guitar over my 62 AVRI.

very surprised some people say they hate the staytrem. i'd buy your staytrem in a heartbeat if you still have it.

I have one on my bass VI and love it, need another for my JM.
