Surf music is absolutely sexual! I mean, look at all the song names for Godsakes!

Penetration
Surf Beat
Tally Ho
Bikini Drag
Wingnuts theme
Wedge..... ha ha
Big Swell....ha ha ha
Wipeout......ooooooops
Pipe........line.......ha ha ha
and of course our original tune, "Presto Con Huevos", (means, fast with balls)
Don't even get me started on the Cowabunga "Box" set..........ha ha

Lol!

Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

That's sexy!

Sunday night, we played at the World Go-Go Championship in Austin with at least a dozen burlesque dancers. Music by The Nematoads, The Really Rottens (punk-surf), Johnny Hootrock (Austin's answer to the Cramps), and Danger*Cakes (all female jazz combo). The dancers showed some pretty amazing moves and really got into the instrumentals more than anything else. Last fall, we backed up several burlesque dancers as well. The music really works for these types of shows, though it was difficult to concentrate on playing guitar with everything else going on around me...

hoo boy, cant believe nobody mentioned Beaver Patrol - the Blazers

Sound of the Surf, the movie
Facebook SOTS

We have a song called Bikini Sunrise.

Not sexual though. Named after a famous explosion on Bikini Atoll. Also, not about an hydrogen bomb detonation... Maybe Beaver Patrol is about our favorite mammals?

We also had a song called Ghost Boner, it was about ghost boners but we didn't sexualize the boner. A lot of people got boners themselves when we mentioned the song title and then were disappointed when the song turned out to not be very sexual, so we changed it to Suspense in Sector 7.

Song titles, action, lyrics, physical imagery combined with certain rhythmic elements(depends on the person) make a song sexual. In my opinion, surf music lacks all of these. The surf beat is a far way off from what I consider a sexual rhythm/beat. Playing at go-go events, burlesque, etc... it the element of nostalgia at play and people getting off on nostalgia. Amazing how many people get "ghost boners" from nostalgia. And most of this is manufactured nostalgia. Most of the people turning out at half our gigs(car shows, burlesque, hot rod themed bars, etc...) were in their early 40s or 30s. Is it because we don't remember unsavory pop culture from the 50s and 60s yet we remember how shitty the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s were? Nostalgia of the decadal sort, is my least favorite thing on the planet(next to a lot of other things). I don't dislike those who enjoy that sort of thing, but it just frustrates me because there is almost dogma about copying these things instead of coming up with twists on it or something original.

How did that rant come about? First I was joking(Ghost Boner was actually a working title, that is no joke), and then I'm ranting. Weird.

Don't take anything I say too seriously. Everything I've ranted upon I've experienced/been a part of in my life so I don't think the stuff contained is lame, just the dogmatic approach of some.

I'm sorry to inform you that Diarrhea Planet has a song called Ghost With A Boner, just in case you were ever tempted to revisit this idea.
