Permalink Questions About Thin Skin Jazzmasters/Jaguars

New Topic

I have a few questions for those that have purchased a Fender Thin Skin Jazzmaster or Jaguar through Dave's and Wildwood.

1) What's the nut width?

2) How many shims in the neck pocket?

3) What's the price you paid?

If the last question is too personal, I understand. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post it on the forum.

I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a new thin skin offset, buy a used thin skin offset, build a parts offset or buy an AVRI and replace the neck.

Thanks in advance.

Nut width: 1.3/4" It's 9.5 radius.
Shims - I didn't watch while it was set-up so I don't know. However I get pretty low action, no buzz (just very little that doesn't amplify) with the stock bridge. Tremolo etc. - great, the usual American stuff, just need to bend the arm a little so it doesn't rotate by it's own weight.
I can see at certain lightning that the body is 3-piece.
$1600 new at Dave's (a year and a half ago), who provided wonderful service.

I didn't weight it but it's pretty heavy, however:
This guitar feels great, sounds amazing, and looks stunning.
Highly recommend.

I recently bought a used-but-mint '08 Thin Skin Jaguar in Ocean Turquoise--loaded with a Mastery bridge and Novaks--for 1300.00...
That's a very good deal with the add-ons, IMHO...

I'd look for a used Thin Skin...
I think they are the best Jag deal out there, and might even have the best features, with the frets and neck radius...

They love to ding, which might get the price down even more....

My White Blonde on Ash Jazzmaster came from Dave's, although it was a buy/sell deal I had with a local buddy who periodically does business with them, so I'm not exactly sure what the final price was from Dave's. At the time, they were listed at $1599 (still the same price today, I believe).

I'll have to measure the nut when I get home, but all the specs I've read on the Thinskins state 1.650" (and it is, of course, a 9.5" radius).

I brought it to a local tech for a pro setup and I was there when he started tearing it apart and I THINK there was one small shim in there.
I do know that the action on mine is as good as any guitar I've ever played. Consistent all the way up and down the neck with no buzzing or dead spots.

It's one of my all-time favorite guitars and I can't imagine ever parting with it. The ash is gorgeous through the White Blonde finish and it's relatively light.
You won't be disappointed if you decide to get a Thinskin. A used one in a good condition would be great, but even a "new" one at full price won't cost any more than a new AVRI (they were actually cheaper for a while) - and worth every nickel.
Good luck!

Mark

There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices.
