Classic! It's always interesting to hear a guitarist's early influences- he said his first was what Chet Atkins was doing on the Everly Bothers albums, and cited "Bigmouth Strikes Again" as something inspired from that, with the jangly acoustic stylings he was doing with The Smiths.

All I can say is it's a good thing I bought my Jazzmaster (with which I am deliriously happy btw) before I learned about this guitar. I may still sell several guitars and such someday to buy a well-used Jaguar and complete the Fender Big Three, but this one is now out of reach. Whew!
I think it should be possible to put Marr's switching mods on any Jag. Isn't it?

Great tune! Not too many are familiar with it. The Smiths were clever about putting out little gems as B-sides, which made people not only buy their albums, but also go out to find the singles, of which came out on all sorts of nice colored slabs of wax.

Their two compilations Hatful of Hollow and Louder than Bombs are really no worse than the albums are. Especially Louder than Bombs, those B-sides are amazing. London, Girl Afraid, Rubber Ring, and Oscillate Wildly are stand outs to me.
The two compilation albums suffer from not being albums as the track order doesn't really try to create a mood or tell a story in the same way they acheived on their albums. But the music was always great.
I've been collecting the 12" singles, great art, great music, great b-sides.

That track is also available on the comp "Louder Than Bombs" and is also definitely a favorite of mine. Oscillate Wildly=Oscar Wilde.
I love the literary allusions in Morrissey's lyrics. I wonder if he titled this one. Sounds like him.
Ooops, Jake beat me to it. Simultaneous post.

I believe he did, considering Wilde's treatment because of who he was.
Jake, the 12" singles are the best! London was always one of my faves because of the driving 60s Fuzz-Punk style guitar. I have some pretty crazy Smiths colored vinyl. The artwork was always stellar.

Ok, I'll join The Smiths lovefest... Here's one of my faves off of Hatful. I like this version more than the one on their first album. I believe it was recorded during one of their famous Peel Sessions. I love Johnny Marr's guitar work on this one.

Yeah, totally! This version is an example of just how special this band is. Every word and every note... how do I describe it. It is just real, a transparent interpretation of what this song is to them.

Another fan here of The Smiths and Johnny Marr.
Ryan, "Still Ill" brings back a lot of great memories...including the fact that I played in a "Smiths wanna-be band" back in the mid 80s.

One more in the Smiths camp. Have all their stuff on CD, and "The Queen is Dead" and "Strageways, Here We Come" remain favorites, though "Louder than Bombs" is chock-full of amazing stuff, too. The live album, "Rank," is just fantastic, too, and it gives the band an extra edge they didn't exhibit in the studio. I'm always thrilled when a Smiths songs comes on 1st Wave on Sirius/XM radio! It's a breath of fresh air each and every time.
Johnny Marr is truly a phenomenal guitarist, super-creative and tasteful. My wife's a big fan of his '03 album with the Healers, too. It's really nice to see him putting so much thought into this Jag. Though I'm not a Jag guy by any stretch, this particular guitar seems very intriguing, and I think it's just beautiful. I hope I get to try it out in person soon.

I don't think I've ever really "gotten" this song, but it's my favorite by them.

Johnny Marr is one of my favourite guitarists, especially with his 'don't want to go down the blues-rock direction" sentiment. It seems you have to be a blues or rawk guitarist to be considered a great guitarist. Johnny Marr proves that you just have to be a great guitarist!

Add another one to the list. I have all the 12 inch singles, bought as they were released, (as well as the albums, obviously), but then I am an old bloke, as Da-Ron can attest. I saw them on the tour when Rank was recorded, although on a different night, I think, at the Brixton Academy. That was the night that Pat Nevin stood on my toe, although that won't mean much to most people on this forum.

I remember the first time I really got into the Smiths (beyond being familiar with How Soon Is Now?). It was magical - I couldn't stop listening. I was into industrial and IDM at the time. The Smiths made me forget about all that crap. :p

If you're doing requests, how about a video of some glissanado's through a tank, haha... more photos are always welcome though! I'm undecided if I like the orange-sherbet hue of the metallic KO, it looks more like a new color than faded CAR.
