Then why dis someone for their opinion? I agree with Jake that the Beach Boys put out some great music over the years, but it's painful to watch them now. That Brian Wilson/Jools Holland video was hard to watch. I'd rather listen to their records and the release of Smile than pay $200 to see Brian forget the words and sing out of tune.

Randomly saying something is awful in a forum isn't expressing an opinion, it's trolling. It happens quite often.
I paid $40 buck to see Brian last year and sat next to Mel of the Phantom Surfers shouting out the lyrics to Custom Machine. It was a blast. You can't judge how a show is from one YouTube clip. That clip wasn't what I saw. The band and Brian were tight.

Norm doesn't like me because I have opinions contrary to his own. And yes, you are better off letting everyone enjoy playing(and listening to) the music they like! Never feel like you shouldn't chime in with your opinion though as most of us are adult enough to have intelligent debate about music and accept others opinions. I've discovered and learned a lot through everyone at this board. It is truly eye opening.

It wasn't random. He has an opinion and if you don't agree with him, don't belittle him.
Glad you got to see Brian for $40 and have a good time. Last time I saw him in the 80s, he was forgetting lyrics and singing so far out of tune it hurt. That's what forms my opinion about this whole thing. I'm just tired of seeing reunion tours where the "bands" are charging high prices in this day of recession. I'd much rather hold the fond memories of them that I have from listening to their records or old films.

Jake is quite the attention getter, isn't he? He digs that.
Anyway, can't wait to see this event!

Again, you're the one taking stabs at him. Maybe you dig attention. Just let him have his opinion instead of belittling him because his views are at a variance with yours.
I'm glad you're excited about the show. There are those of us who aren't and that doesn't mean we're "haters," as you so lovingly put it. We have our reasons.

??? I think you're reading something in my posts that really isn't there, nor intended. But if that's how you want to interpret it, then there's nothing I can do about that.

And on a positive tip...

I think they could do a really good job - what if they
used Brian Wilsons backing band?
The show I saw had The Wondemints backing him. They were outstanding! They filled in all the stuff that Brian couldn't reach. Brian played the piano which was brilliant, and told stories between songs, even metioning Gary Usher at one point. It would be awesome if they used the same group for this stuff.

Yeah, I saw him with The Wondermints too - one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was the Smile tour. Some of it was so good I nearly cried with happiness.
If this Beach Boys tour doesn't come to Colorado, I'm going to do whatever it takes to go to a show somewhere else.

Well, I'm excited about this, and especially about David Marks being a part. Gives me chills seeing all the original surviving members together and singing again. Hope they catch some magic.

Not sure if that is at the Beach Boys or the petty squabbling?
I was raised in a very different era, I'm an introvert, and very nerdy. These are reasons why my opinions in music, and pretty much everything else, vary widely from anybody else on this board. I enjoy debate and conversation on the internet. I don't say things to purposefully go against the grain, I do try to incite civilized debate as I love hearing everyones opinions. I try to challenge, not demean.
I love the Beach Boys immensely, very important band in my life. First music I owned, but they are now a legacy act. It is just very hard to see that happen to something you love.

Everyone gets old Jake. Even you someday. It's still really cool however to see these guys together for someone like me who is a massive fan and didn't get to see them in their heyday. Seeing them together again is priceless and way cool dispite whatever shortcomings they have because of their age.

I appreciate what you have to say, Jake. I don't see you as a "troublemaker," rather as someone looking at things from a different perspective. If everyone had the same perspective, the world would be dreadfully boring. However, some people can't handle hearing what they don't want to or expect to hear. If I wanted nothing but affirmations, I wouldn't be part of this list. A well-balanced discussion helps me grow in knowledge.
Shivers 13, as I said before, I'm very happy you're excited about this. When I said that, it was glossed over because I was touted as "picking a fight." That wasn't the case, and I don't go back and edit my posts and then try to say that I was saying something else, like someone I know. I just have a different perspective, which is more aligned to Jake's on this particular topic. And this is based off my own experiences.
So, in conclusion, I will say again that for those of you who are excited about this, I'm glad you can get excited about it. I don't hate you or berate you for having an opinion that is at a variance with my own. I just would like to see people be a little more open to dissenting viewpoints and not resort to sophomoric insults.

Hey Matt, in another post you suggested the Beach Boys didn’t play on their recordings which is incorrect. That leads me to believe that you don't really know much about the band and you are not a fan that’s likely to go see them anyway. What's your burning desire to chime in on this thread?
