The Great Race is on! In the east, will we be packed and ready for the movers? In the west, will the contractor have the house ready for the movers? We hope so! We've started bringing out some of our stuff already. After Oct 15, will be in Forest Hills full-time, except for weekends to clean out the old place and turn over the keys on Nov 1.
And then there's this: I've been more lurker here than active participant for the last few months. I have endeavored to keep you, my friends, updated on how things are going, to explain why I don't do anything else here. This unpleasant but essential situation will continue until my life returns to normal, hopefully before year's end. Miss you all! But...
I'll be back!

Yet still you find time to make sure everyone is wished a Happy Birthday.
Kudos, Salud, Bravo & other superlatives!

I suppose it was inevitable. Weeks of heavy lifting, and moving appliances and furniture have taken their toll. I tore something in back of my upper left shoulder. It only doesn't hurt A LOT when I lay flat on my back, but I'm not much help from that position. I have only one arm to use the rest of the time.
Like I said once in another context, whenever I act how young I feel, I hurt something.
The move-out begins Oct 12. Dagnabbit!

We're similar ages I imagine; you didn't get the extended warranty either, eh?
Best of luck amigo! Do you have any whipper-snappers who are helping?

Yep, I forgot to get the extended warranty! All the teenagers dispersed around the time Henry entered the Navy. Nothing left here but us old, break-down prone codgers.

Last time I moved about 10 years ago I did something to my hand (forget what) that made it unusable for a week or 2. I rigged up one of those bungee cord tie down thingies around my forearm and used it like Captain Hook. Was able to load 80 banana boxes (my packing box of choice) of books and move them all before my big moving day when I had 'the guys' move my furniture.
Not helpful in your current situation Noel but this gave you something to read while you are all proned out.

After ten days of worsening symptoms, increasing pain, and more and more down-time providing less and less relief, Barb convinced me to go to the ER last night.
It was my description of the pain as like a bolt through the back of my shoulder that pointed the doctors to the problem, because they said that is exactly how this is described to feel. The consensus is I badly pulled/repetitively hyper-extended my left rhomboid muscle, which cramped into a knot, trapping some nerves with it. Think of a small, highly localized Charlie-horse that wouldn't go away. And, of course, I kept trying to pack, lift, and carry heavy boxes. Combine that with the hunched posture I have to assume to assist Corradina in her online charter home-school, and I was constantly making the muscle knot worse.
I got a special shot in the muscle, a dandy muscle-relaxer shot in my arm, and the med student on ER duty gave me an amazing deep-muscle massage to try to untie the knot. If I combine the prescription pain-reliever and muscle-relaxer with rest and proper posture, and give up packing, stacking, and moving heavy boxes and furniture for a while, I should eventually be free of a reoccurrence.
If symptoms don't reoccur in the next half-hour, that will be the first time, and a good sign.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Could it have been the result of 12 oz curls? Moving will drive even the best of men to drink.
Heal kid, take care of yourself.
You do know though that the Emergency Departments are no longer refered to as the "ER." They are now (and who the hell thought of this), called the Emergency Department or "ED." My youngest son Scott is an "ED" doc (as he prefers to be called).................. I can't say it without chuckling so I just say "emergency room physician."

Did you tell him there's a pill for that?

Noel,
I've had syndromes like that, but not lately thank God. Nerves and overexertion/overextension can do that to you. Worse is when it starts a chain-reaction cramp all up and down one side of the body. Try sauna or hot baths, and light liquor imbibing. It IS a muscle relaxer.

Yeah Badge, the term "having the blues" may well be: 1: taking on a new meaning, and 2. a brighter outlook in general.
Like DuPont once used as a slogan: "better living through chemistry."
Just an inquiring observation.

Thanks for all your well-wishes and advice, everyone! I really should but actually can't lay off the shoulder until after the move. All the symptoms returned as the day wore on yesterday. But at least I can set off a TENS unit. Nice! Also nice to know that, as long as I don't lift any more heavy furniture or boxes, I probably won't tear anything.
I'm just waiting for the move to be over. Then I can try to keep the muscle relaxed all the time, and the knot will finally disappear for good.
Corradina is doing well in the charter online high school, and loves every minute of it. The work is harder, but there's no pressure to perform in front of staring or jeering classmates. So she can try her best without worrying about everyone's reactions. She loves school again!
The music room is well underway. It's going to be painted Lime and Coconut. The walls and doors will be Lime and the ceiling and all the trim will be Coconut Milk White. The bar will also be Coconut, so no one walks into it. I'm open to suggestions for the counter top.
