Hey all, so I'm having a little trouble getting a really good "drip" reverb sound from my Silverface Twin even though I have a new Mod reverb pan installed in it now. I'm talking that wet Astronauts "Baja" drip that really comes through with some palm muting. I've recently played a new '65 Twin Reverb Reissue that was getting the sound I was looking for even with the reverb relatively low.
Could the reverb tube or maybe my speakers have anything to do with it?
Is there anything I could try with my current tank that might help get more drip?
Should I just buy an Accutronics tank to see if it does what I want in my amp (I thought the Mods were supposed to be better)?
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You could try using a vintage pan. That helped me achieve a good drip sound.
for example:

However, you would want to get a pan with the right specs to match your amp.

Rossmosis, you've noted the role palm muting plays and some better luck with the Twin, so technique and settings may not be an issue, but this thread includes a good set of pointers on settings and whatnot that, worst case, can validate some of the fundamentals in what you are looking to accomplish (particularly, Ivan's excerpt):

All good suggestions!
I'm intrigued by the RCA to 1/4" idea, has anyone else tried it?
So one cable goes from the tank to the channel 1 input but the other tank cable stays connected to the chassis?

That's correct. The output from the back of the amp to the reverb tank input stays connected. Plug the RCA end of the new cord into the tank output and the 1/4" end into Input 1 of the Normal channel.
I've done this on several amps and can't understand why more people haven't tried it.
Where are you located?

Just opened your profile and saw that you are in Austin. You could fly me out and I can show you how to do it!
Seriously, Gerald is in Pfluegerville. You should go over and talk to him. Neat guy!

Have you considered an outboard reverb unit?

Who's Gerald!?
I'd love a standalone reverb unit down the road when I have the money for one... someday!

Gerald Webber of Kendrick Amplifiers. He's written (excellent) columns for Guitar Player and Vintage Guitar Magazines as well as a couple of books. The mod I described first appeared in on of his Vintage Guitar columns a few years ago.

Before going to too much trouble and expense I would try swapping tubes. New preamp tubes in positions V3 & V4 can really pump up the reverb compared to old worn out tubes. I changed out the preamp tubes in a Bandmaster Reverb that had the original tubes in it and it really brought new life to the reverb and tremolo. I thought the amp needed servicing because the tremolo especially was so weak. Now it sounds as good as any other amp I own.

Sooo I've tried running my reverb tank into my "Normal" channel with a couple different RCA to 1/4" methods but I can't get any reverb coming through. Guess my amp doesn't wanna!
