Yes! In fact, Larry Crane (the creator/editor) was the engineer on 2 of our albums at his Jackpot Studio in Portland.

I think someone--possibly dp--posted about it over in the old Yahoo group. I signed up shortly after, and really dig the magazine.

Ted, that's awesome about Larry. Has he ever written about Satan's Pilgrims for the mag?

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I remember it was Dano from the Nebulas who first turned the yahoo group on to that great mag.

I know I always look forward to flipping through it every month. It's interesting to see what goes on "behind the board".

I'm not sure. Maybe just a mention here or there. We did some cool things with him. For Creature Feature, we borrowed an old tube bass compressor that was used on the Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie" and other early tracks. I think it turned out pretty well. I usually run from compression as a drummer.

Thanks for the info guys! I just subscribed...very cool site!

Thor and I have also had a subscriptions to this mag for a couple years now...great stuff. My fav. interview so far has been the one with Carol Kaye. Very interesting and informative for a bass player. Ive actually been using her "bass mute" technique and have been quite happy with the results.

So, Scott, you finally reached for the masking tape, eh?

I forget how I stumbled upon TapeOp in 2002, but I've been reading and re-reading every issue ever since. I can't think of where else I've learned as much about mike choice and placement, preamps, mastering, etc., not to mention all the great interviews with some really major and influential folks. I've been introduced to some of my now-favorite artists and bands through TapeOp, too. I appreciate the variety of musical styles covered.

Oh, yeah - and it's free.

...the newest issue of TapeOp arrived in the mailbox yesterday!

I stayed up way too late reading an interview with Jamie Laboz...very inspirational.

check out Jamie's cool TV instrumental music at www.jamiesboombox.com

Jamie has a cool "feedback machine" at his site:

DP,
You forgot to mention the "Ghetto Recorders" article for those of us who love garage music. It's a great interview with John Linardos and Jim Diamond. For those of you who don't know them - these are two of the main players in the Detriot Garage renaissance, the guys who recorded bands like the Detroit Cobras, The White Stripes, and The Dirtbombs among others. There's also a sweet picture of John L. holding a niiiice old Mosrite Joe Maphis model. (one of them ones with the stubby little horns)
