OK everybody, Hopefully a good amount of you will come to this.
the Last 2 years, the Sunday night get together was a very nice way to wind down from the weekend of shows, and actually get to hang out and talk a bit.
This will be at Don the Beachcomber in Sunset Beach,
7pm to 10 pm
Since the Sat. Jam at the convention is a bit more on the obscure side.
I thought that everybody that wants to do the more standard covers could get up and play either Rhythm or Lead with Matt Quilter(of the Reventlos)
and his Wave Machine back up recordings.
Here is his e-mail to me, with notes on how its gonna go.
Hi Jeff---here's my songlist, sorry for delay. Some
of these are my own arrangements, but a lot of them are
exactly like the original versions, and I've made an * after
the standards that are stock versions. I've also made
a grouping of the sax-friendly songs. My $.02:
This will probably work best if we make it kind of a surf
guitar karaoke thing. Remember that there is already
bass and rhythm guitar on the tracks, and they can't be
muted. I do occasionally do this as a duo, but usually
with Kerry on keyboards and occasionally a sax player.
It generally works best with one guitar player at a time,
although it can be done with more if restraint is
shown. I'm thinking that I should do a short set by
myself of the obscure or non-trad songs, and then start
getting people up. I can be either on second
guitar or just on hand to cue the players on the
arrangements. Hopefully, everyone will be mellow and
shit-faced, and have a lot of of fun trying to play to
tracks, and not stress about not using their own
stuff. I will have multiple amps and guitars there,
along with a PA and some cheesy lighting.

I emailed Matt too.
I'd like lead on "Sleigh Ride" and have him do "Lullaby", since we don't do it in our Medley. We can split "Walk" and "Perfidia" however he wants.
Carol-you be kind too!

We're going to alternate Leads:
"Walk"-Matt, "Perfidia"-me, "Lullaby"-Matt, "Sleigh Ride"-me.
"Guitar Karaoke"-what next!

FYI everybody this is for pros and bedroom players.
come on, lets get some more sign ups.
sun night at Dons is just gonna be the hard core fans,
hangin out, and cuttin loose,
Matt said its no stress, and if you make mistakes its no biggie.
I may even sign up for Rhythm on a song.

i wouldn't mind switching back and forth on 'baja' either.
for anyone who thinks they aren't good enough to do this..........if i can do it, you can.............don't chicken out........i messed up the lead on 'penetration' last year (i had shaking hands and then jumped into the chorus too soon) and i'm coming back for more.........

cool Carol,

and all close friends.
pick a few if you want.

Ditto BTD! And don't forget; Matt Man can make anyone sound good and his backing tracks are first-rate. I sure wouldn't miss it.

bump,
not quite as important as the Jam at the convention.
but would be nice to get some more people chiming in on this thread.
and signing up for some songs.
there will be a list there that night,
where you can pick a song then.
but it would be better to have the songs picked out in advance if possible.

Jeff - I'm bringing the Jazzmaster down from Seattle
and would love to give the Wave Machine a whirl.
Only problem is, I have to be outta there by 7:45
to catch my flight back to Seattle. Stuff that I play
lead on routinely (and in the keys indicated) includes
Mr Moto, Apache, Sleepwalk, Pipeline, Breeze and I,
Hawaii 5-O and a few others on that list.
Cheers,

Why don't you plan to go on first? That would get you out in plenty of time! Us locals need to accomodate those coming from out of town.
I've played with Matt and Jim Frias using the Wave Machine tracks and it was a blast!
