So, my wife and I have been watching this new sitcom called "Help Me Help You" with Ted Danson (ex-Sam in Cheers) as a pretty unstable psychiatrist (is there any other kind on TV?). In one recent episode Danson's character Bill restarts his old garage band so they can play in his ex-wife's garage and he can be close to her. Anyway, they're all middle-aged guys and they're pretty bad musicians. But there were two exchanges I thought you'd appreciate. I posted one in the thread on matching outfits, and here's the other one:
(the setting: Bill is trying to encourage his bandmates after a practice. Al, the drummer, is of course, chubby.)
Bill: You guys are such talented, nuanced musicians. Al, some of your drumming has got this dark, edgy, mysterious vibe to it that's just hypnotic.
Al: I do listen to a lot of surf music.
Happy weekend!

I saw that. It's the same guy who plays "Craig" the store manager on the show Malcolm in the middle. Got a kick out of the reference, I wonder who the writer is?

I am a bandleader like that! always asking the guys to do a little dance and then say they look ridiculous.
that show looks hilarious, I hope they sell it to a Euro station.

The guitar player is David St. Hubbins from Spinal Tap! How can you say they're not good musicians? He wrote the classic - "Sex Farm Woman" for crying out loud!
That clip was funny - I think all good bands need a clarinet solo.

Assuming the episode is actually called "Pink Freud," http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0918272/
Other credits include News Radio Futurama and Arrested Development
You could do a lot worse.

Chris, I say they're not good musicians cause the CHARACTERS in the show are not supposed to be good musicians! They're middle-aged psychiatrists that haven't played much in many years. And when they show them playing they sound like crap. I know Michael McKean is a good guitarist in real life, but not in this show....

Here's another short clip...it seems to be "behind the scenes".
That little jig he does is hilarious.

Ivan - I knew what you meant - I was just poking fun at Michael McKean and the fact that no matter what he does, he'll always be David St. Hubbins to me. No small feat after starring as Lenny (as in Lenny and Squiggy) on "Laverne and Shirley" - That's off topic - sorry....
some of that clip struck kind of too close to home for me - the writer surely has played in more that a few bands in his/her life.
