I got to meet Greg Noll when he was inducted to the Surfing hall of fame in HB recently. When I shook his hand & called him "Mr. Noll" he response was, "I'm just Greg." Just Greg? The guy is a living legend. His book "Da Bull" is an interesting read.

When that was filmed, I doubt anyone ever heard of Cortes Bank. The guys in this video were some of the poineers for paddle in big wave surfing. Yeah, they "only" rode up to about 30 feet. They didnt have leashes & no one was out there to save their butts if they wiped out.
Tow in surfing poineered by Laird Hamilton who has taken big wave surfing to the next level. While Laird Hamilton & others may get towed in to larger waves, in every interview I have ever seen, they are in awe of guys like Greg Noll. Whether you are paddeling into a 30 footer at Wiamea or being towed onto a 75' wave at Jaws those guys all have one thing in common. Tremendous skills as watermen & major league cajones.
