Permalink Repro tone ring cabinet builders

New Topic

I just wanted to share some info I've collected regarding reproduction tone ring cabinets with my fellow SG101ers.

Both JD Newell (http://www.newellamps.com/) and Peter Mather (http://www.mathercab.com/) make 1x15 tone ring cabinets for $450 plus shipping, with a current lead time of 4 weeks.

Bob at Beaver Bottoms (http://www.beaverbottoms.com/) makes 1x15 tone ring cabs for $350 plus shipping. He only requires $100 down, but I'm not sure what the lead time is on his cabinets. I recommend checking out his website - there are some great pics of his builds.

As far as I can tell, all three of these builders stay true to the original Fender design that we all know and love (dimensions, wood choices, etc.). Also, they all can build tone ring and non-tone ring cabinets in other configurations as well. When I spoke to Bob at Beaver Bottoms last week, he had a 1x12 tone ring cab in black and wheat in stock and ready to ship for anyone who might be interested.

I've spoken to all three of these builders and if I had to make a choice of who to go with based on customer service it would be hard - all three were very helpful and responsive.

Good luck to all of you on your quest for the ultimate surf sound!

Thats really good to know broham!! Beaver bottom sounds good ... Lol!!! Is the cabinet all done up with tolex of your choice and grill etc for that price?? I had Larry Rodgers made me a cabinet and it was perfect however, way more $$$ Still it's worth checking out.. Thanks again for the heads up ...

+1 Larry Rodgers. If you want a bulletproof, accurate repro-Larry's your man! If you google him, make sure to include the "d" in his last name.

I hadn't heard of Larry Rogers before. I'll be sure to check out his cabinets as well. Thanks guys!

WOW!! Thanks for the info. Finally someone did their research and it's a great benefit to all us "tone junkies" out there. SG101!

Thats right... Larry Rodgers has done some work for me even a tone ring ... http://www.naturdoctor.com/Chapters/Rodgers/Princeton.html

Larry Rodgers built this Deluxe Reverb cab that houses a Dual Showman chassis and a pair of 10" Weber Californias.

He does VERY nice work. He's not the most congenial guy on the planet, though. Confused

Hey Woody!! Yeah, I know Larry pretty well as I have had him make all kinds of Fender Cabinets grill baffles matching cabinets etc. He is quirky for sure however, he's all about business and attention to detail... If your looking for a repro cabinet he will nail it!!

Woody & Roby-my take exactly on Larry-but we agree-he does NICE work!

Tone ring cabs RULE!

ok I'm gonna get a tone ring cabinet made.. I was going with Larry Rodgers and his price was a bit out of my range as I could get two from my other guy for the same price as Larry Rodgers.. Larry is the best for detail and materiel but I just want a matching 1x12'' tone -ring cab.. Just wondering if you would be interested in a 1x12" tone-ring cabinet? We have more orders the cheaper it is for all of us...

I am bumping this old thread to add a vendor recommendation (mentioned above but many years ago).
Peter Mather still builds cabs. I just got a couple of small single 15 rough blonde/Oxblood cabs from him. Very well built (they are dovetailed, as opposed to finger-jointed). The prices were fair and the quality high. I am sure he can still do tone-ring cabs.

Since you are bumping this, I thought I might let folks know that Larry Rodgers has passed away since the time of this original thread. RIP.
