See this news story. Let the comp begin!

You can upload your mp3's to the new 2008 MP3 compilation category in the downloads part of the site.

Also, to help me out, please please please:

  • Ensure your MP3 is at least 128 kbps, otherwise archive.org won't put it in its cool player (at least, that was the case 2 years ago).

  • Fill out the mp3 tags! Very few people did this. Crying

  • Only send in mp3 files. No other formats please.

hooray!

and I just checked, the comps of former years have been downloaded 40,000 (2005) 20,000 (2006) and 7,500 (2007) times form archive.com. Im not sure of it counts complete downloads or track but still, a great way to get your music out there.

I hope I can come up with a cool tune for this year's comp Cool

I just submitted my tune for this year. It's called "gOofY FoOt" and i wrote it many years ago. This is the second version i've done. The first version had a bunch of samples from other artists and instead of getting permission to use them, i just re-recorded it a few months back. I'm sorry to the other writers with a song called "Goofy Foot"...i know there's a few of them out there...but like i said, i wrote this a long time ago.
Surfca....I'm into writing and recording songs long distance. I'd be stoked to work on something with you. PM me OK?
Brian...thanks again for the oportunity to have my music heard and a big Mahalo for this website.

I received several uploads yesterday and today. I'm running a bit behind and will post them probably tomorrow.

O'tay... submitted an original tune from our band called Sharkpit. Hope it's worthy... enjoy!

CUTBACK

When is the cutoff for this project, as far uploads go?

"as far AS uploads go?" oops.

I put one of our public domain tracks up there. I like the real variety of the other year's comps: some pro, some not pro, some wacky, some very serious. Hope our tune can fit in somewhere there.

Ooops! I should have checked before I submitted my tune. I just Googled the title of my original tune, "Shootin' The Pier", and found that both the Lively Ones and Satan's Pilgrims have already used that title (they don't sound like the same tune to me). What should I do? Anyone have have a good title?

Also, bad news for the Takeoffs, I found a "Shootin' the Pier" LP by the Lively Ones that contains a tune called "Goofy Foot" (which sounds similar to Apache).

I like it... but when I Googled it, I found that "Pier Shootin'" is a cut on the 1982 LP, "Raiders Of The Lost Surf" by the Surf Raiders. Sad

I am surprised you have never heard of "Shootin' the Pier", but unless it really bothers you, I wouldn't worry about it. There are many examples of different songs with the same name in history.

How about "Shootin' the Peer" - sounds the same but gives it a whole new meaning - maybe a little twisted... Wink
