Yes the New Dimensions have been in my blind spot for too long. Will check more of their stuff out.

The New Dimensions call "Failsafe" "Chicky Run" don't they? I've heard that then. Very cool.

I believe that Failsafe and Chicky Run are two different tunes. We used to cover Failsafe by the New Dimensions in the Nelsonics. It's a rad tune.

Yes I'm all confused, they are different. I just listened to both versions of Failsafe (Original Surfaris and New Dimensions) and Chicky Run by the New Dimensions.

I think I still prefer the Original Surfari's Failsafe to the New Dimensions version, but both are quite boss.

Brian
Moment of Truth - various, but Jon & The Nightriders stands out to me

I'm torn between Al Garcia & the Rhythm Kings and Dave Myers & (I forget which) for older versions. The first is a really complex whole built out of many simple(r) pieces, while the latter is bolder (and I like the bass). Howver, I've discovered that with a lot of songs what I really like is to listen to a bunch of versions in a row. I think it might be a new form of addiction: multiversion mainlining.

"Penetration"-The Pyramids
"Pipeline"-The Chantays
"Surf Rider"-The Ventures
"Wipe Out"-The Surfaris
"Endless Summer"-The Sandals
"Scratchy"-Travis Wammack
"Walk Don't Run"-The Ventures
"Carl's Big Chance"-The Beach Boys
"10 Over"-The Ventures
"Glass Packed and Fully Stacked"-Evan Foster

Ron-Rhoades
"Glass Packed and Fully Stacked"-Evan Foster

Thanks for reminding me about Evan's solo CD. There are some killer surfy tracks on there (and some not so surfy).

I'm pretty sure I have Unkonwn, by the Vydells
and I believe that Jon and the Nightriders and the Mermen have covered it.

Splashback does a great cover, released on one of the KFJC discs.
That is a great call, Zak.

Yeah every one of those versions are great. That's a really solid song.

The Penetrators covered both Unknown and The Truant in their early days, too. I think that may be where I first heard both of those great songs.

I'm still pretty new to the genre, but I'm pretty fanatical right now trying to play catch-up. I've been mostly listening to 1st Wave stuff, but I'm just now venturing into some more modern sounds. Right now here's my Ten.

Squad Car – Eddie & The Showmen
Mr. Moto – The Belairs
Everybody Up – Fender IV
Latinia – The Sentinels
Pabst Blue Ribbon – Untamed Youth
Misirlou – Dick Dale (Pulp Fiction version!)
Bumble Bee Twist – Ventures Live in Japan '65
Big Surf – The Sentinels
Boss BSA – Satan's Pilgrims
Margaya – Fender IV

Next week this list could be totally different.

Wow this is not easy. In no order:

The Sentinel - The Sentinels
Taco Wagon - Dick Dale
Slaughter on 10th Ave - The Ventures
Telstar - The Bitch Boys
The Breeze and I - The Jesters & Krontjong Devils
Bottom of the Hill - The Sadies
Diamond Head - The Ventures
Melodie's dilemma - The Penetrators
Baja - Astronauts
Squad Car - The Belairs (Yes, I like the original better)
