Agree with Ivan... to gimmicky.

Now El Vez, that guy is just fantastic.

That's not a guy! (Is she?)

I love El Vez, but I'm partial to The King.

Check out his sound samples.
The King is James Brown, an Irish postman. He was discovered singing Elvis songs at a karaoke bar. He's real good and is kind of like what if Elvis had lived and kept covering songs of the day?

Speaking of Elvis, how about Eilert Pilarm?

"Lyssna" means "Listen" in the top menu... image

Right up the street from my apartment is the restaurant that's home to Thai Elvis:

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

That guy has a good thing going- not just singing the Elvis catalog, though I'm sure it pisses off the "trad" crowd! That is a good selection of songs- Whole Lotta Rosie, Come As You Are, Blockbuster, No Woman No Cry, BUT they should have the backing tracks done in Elvis' style to match the vocal, it makes the project sound like he's singing over a karaoke tape.

Ted, This might be a really dumb question, but are there a lot of Elvis impersonators playing regularly in Memphis?

Warren,
I have a photo with me and Thai Elvis in like 1993! He's still doing it? I have tried to find that place every time I've gone back to LA and have never been able to.

Not as many as you think. There is one guy who does it every night on Beale St. for tourists. A lot of them come at Death Week and just walk around. It's not really encouraged or appreciated in Memphis-just as the Elvis wasn't really encouraged or appreciated.

Ted,

He's not only still doing it, but he's still awesome. I think the restaurant's moved from where it used to be; it's now on Hollywood Blvd. & Bronson Ave - Palms Thai.

Ok man. Next time we're in LA...I'll try to find that pic.
