Anyone play these cool looking machines? I’m tempted to pick one up beacuse of the design, but haven’t had a chance to play…

if I do get one I’m definitely staining that bright colored neck and headstock to something less cheap looking lol

They look intriguing - and I love that orange color! I'm not the biggest fan of poplar bodies, but when you're building in Indonesia to a price point under $500, poplar is pretty much a necessity. I see they also have an HH version coming out soon.

Easy enough to swap in pickups that better fit a particular player's taste, and I'm in incessant modder so I typically don't care much what pickups are in a guitar from the factory.

The lack of a trem doesn't bother me - not everybody in surf music uses one, and there's plenty of room for hardtails in the music we love!

Guild is coming out with a Surfliner with a vibrato. I actually saw pictures of them somewhere on line but can't seem to find them now. As I recall, they had a Jag/JM style trem (the base plate has been "Guildafied" with a different shape and the "G" logo). Looks like the TOM style bridge remains.

I’ve been intrigued by this guitar. Those Guild mini humbuckers are great sounding pickups. I have a pair on a Guild T 400 archtop, and on the bridge pickup, there’s sort of a Jazzmaster sound. I’d love to play one.

Invariably, any guitar with the word "surf" in the name is doomed to be manufactured without a vibrato. A never-ending source of amusement.

That IS funny.

I love that the YouTube video demo plays nothing that sounds like surf. More of an Andy Summers meets a very brief Santana lick. Ugh, does anyone really know that a Surfliner should surf??? Confused

I saw surfliners with vibrato systems at NAMM today.

Put single coil to bridge and I am buying. I also like these upper controls on the old model, now it looks not so unique.

The mini humbucker at the bridge doesn’t bother me. I have those same pickups on my Guild archtop, and they sound great. They aren’t as focused as, say, a Jaguar pickup, but they are not dark sounding or too husky.

Than it may be ok. I will try one when they will be in german shops.

They are a good sounding pickup, with a rich harmonic spectrum.

I have to retract this. It turns out that the Surfliner Deluxe uses their full-sized humbucker. I don’t know that it would be my first choice for Surf. That pretty much ends my interest in this model.

Surf, the most dangerous of all musical genres...

I too was deceived by the name of the guitar. It has nothing to do with surf music. Apparently, it was named after a train that drove through some section of california.

Big Ryan on his 60 Cycle Hum show does a demo of the new Surf Liner "Deluxe" with the vibrato that is available on YouTube and Big Ryan does test the "Surfability" of the guitar. The vibrato model is apparently a fairly significant step up from the non-vibrato model beyond the addition of the vibrato. Note that the vibrato model also has a full size Guild HB-2 humbucker in the bridge position (no coil split feature either) and not the mini bucker which is probably a non starter for some. The Guild HB-2 'buckers are still brighter than most humbuckers and the modern HB-2's have a standard humbucker footprint (older HB-2's are larger) so hypothetically it could be easily swapped out for a single coil in a humbucker cover (thinking Duncan Fat Cat, etc).

And still does. While it doesn’t pass right by the Guild factory, it does stop in Oxnard as the Amtrak Surfliner continues up the CA coast
