Just wondering how you guys use it in the context of surf music?

How are the Dip switches set?

Before or after the reverb?

I use it as a clean boost, at the end of the chain when I want to "rise above"(solo). I've tried a lot of different "tone shapers" and the combo of pedals I'm using doesn't normally let me leave the tone shapers on 100% of the time. I've had the EP Booster earlier in the chain as "always on" to beef up the tone a little but it ended up at the end for that reason.

I used it as always on boost in the very beginning of the chain. As far as I remember switches were in unity gain setting.
I sold it after I got Sonic Blue Twanger, similar color boost but more versatile.

I found it colored the tone too much for me. Added too much upper mids (or something).

I tried one of these once and it was pretty cool but for boost I have been using the Joker from Lovepedal and also The American Sound Caline which is really a Deluxe amp in a box but its great as a booster as well...... I think all this depends some guys use just there volume control and turn it up on solo work .........

I love my EP Boost but it will kill drip.

Oh really? My JHS Prestige accentuates the drip

I use another type of boost to punch up drip.

I have one, but didn't like what it did to my tone so I benched it. Putting it on eBay next month along with my
Wampler Tumnus,
Voodoo Lab Proctavia and
Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter.

All pedals that I either couldn't figure out or don't fit my sound for surf; which is what I play 80-90% of the time.

It's a boutique clean boost made by a local guy. it does tend to lean a little trebly. It's my always on boost.

I have one that is kind of on and off my board lately dependent on which amp I'm playing through. It doesn't work so great on my Ampeg Supereverb for some reason. It kind of muffles any overdrive tones and takes away individual string articulation with that amp. However, it works a charm on my Ampeg J-20 Jet and I have recently been using it just for a clean tone boost. I place it right after my overdrive (Mesa Flux Drive) and switch between those two pedals depending on whether the tune calls for a clean or slightly overdriven sound. I use a TC Spark Mini at the end of the chain for solos. This set up seems to be working pretty good for me.
Both internal dip switches are set to off as I find the EP already has enough gain and the J-20is already a pretty bright sounding amp. I sometimes use it at 18v setting but I've got it set to 9v for now. It's also currently before reverb (6g15 clone) but I am waiting for a CB Topanga pedal to arrive and I'm planning on placing that before the overdrive and EP Booster to experiment a little further and make my gig rig a bit more portable.

Cheers,

Mike

Maybe I am crazy but I found it changed the tone when it was not engaged, and then changed it more when it was.

Daniel Deathtide

DeathTide, you're not crazy. That's exactly what the EP Booster does and it's why I can't use it just for lead boosts. It changes the tone and feel entirely. I definitely prefer it as an always on pedal.
