I know this video is a few years old now but I'm wondering if anyone here has learned his rendition. Anyone have tips on how I can figure this one out?

I can get parts of it but I get lost too. I wish the resolution was better.

My wife just walked in as I played this and she thinks its fantastic , she's a huge Bowie fan and thinks RJ's arrangement is ace . LOL I told her RJ makes everything sound good . So good .

RJ is quite a master of contemporary guitar

Here you go! I didn't transcribe the solo, but he basically uses the same tricks for that. It's a lot of layering triads (and sometimes 7ths) under the melody lines, and harmonizing in 3rds.

He also makes use of a diminished chord substitution that is commonly used in jazz. Basically, if you're playing a dominant 7th chord (like, say, A7), you can just shift the root note up one half step to make a diminished chord. So instead of A C# E G, you'd have A# C# E G. You can then take that shape and slide it up or down a minor 3rd and it will be the same chord in a different inversion (same notes, slightly different order). It's a good way to give movement and drama to otherwise stagnant sections.

Edit: There were some mistakes in the TABs and overall readability, so I updated the pdf.

Wow. This is great. Thank you, BB.

Of course! I just realized there’s a mistake in the tablature on the last note of measure 20. That should be 5th fret 2nd string, not 3rd.
Anyway, thanks for turning me on to RJ Ronquillo. I hadn’t come across him somehow but he’s a monster of a player and has really good taste.
