Permalink "She Loves You"- the Surfrajettes version by daughter and dad

New Topic

A tribute to the Surfrajettes, the female surf band from Toronto that started Mina and I playing surf music together. Recently, my kid came across their surf version of the Beatle's "She Loves You", and told me she liked the song a lot and asked if "She Loves You" was popular. I told Mina it was one of their least famous and least well-known songs and asked her not to bother. She thought the melody was awesome although simple, and then she saw footages of the Beatles arriving at different airports worldwide and how crazy the fans were....she knew the Beatles was so big, but didn't realize fans would be so crazy about them worldwide. I told her The Ventures sort of became more quiet and surf rock became not as popular back then because there was another type of music by one single band invading the globe. She is a smart kid so now she knows. This makes her think it'd be a great idea to kill 2 birds with one stone, that is to do a cover of the Surfrajettes surf rock version of She Loves You. So folks, we hope you like it and I tell ya, it's sure a lot of fun playing this song. I told her dad have loved this song for literally decades. So, I hope her sonic blue Strat and my casino (but not a 335 natural wood) would be close enough...alright, the black tie too.

Great stuff!!!

That was awesome!!!!

Excellent performance as always! But what’s with the weird animations? I found those pretty distracting. What a brilliant instro that song makes. I liked how your rhythm guitar was louder in the mix. I also wish you had a drummer in the family. Those drums are fine, but compared to the guitars they stand out as “less alive.” So go have more kids and buy them drums!

Hey Pang Pang and Mina, I have a request for you two - that Bodysurfing ukulele song! (https://youtu.be/O4u8n_CjUDY) That one would be prefect, no backing track needed! I am a total hack and had a tough time sitting down and trying to learn it, but I bet you two could do it. I’d love to hear you two jam on that, been thinking that for a while and forgot to ask you.

hahaha... will tell Mina to cut down on the animations and all. She doesn't get to play with a smartphone or the computer much so she gets a big kick out of doing some DIY video editing as an extra curriculum class (at home). hahaha

We DO have a drummer now. ;-))) She has been with us for a while. She DOES play surf rock with us but we have not gotten around to record an official surf video, as she handles some other pretty complicated songs for us. We are working with a crew in making MVs and all of other types of music. So, either I use a simple drum machine or borrow a backing track for surf tunes for now. Wink

And, will def. try the bodysurf ukulele song, and thanks for your request! ;-))))

Mr. Pang Pang-san- that was absolutely terrific. You two are having a blast and making a great connection. I love all of her animations- she should have fun and be creative with this in anyway she wants.
Keep it up!

You guys sound great as usual, good job. I agree about all the animations being a little distracting. Also, do you have any videos of you guys playing live, and not over a polished studio track? Anyway, great job on this tune. She is much more talented than me, and definitely has a bright future ahead of her.

Wonderful tune and the animations are fun to see while you play!

Thanks for your support! I don't think we have any footage with She Loves You. But there are others...I tell ya, it's hard to go back to live recording as the sound quality at home seems....hahaha. it is just hard to go back to one mic home recording. My friends all complained to me and asked me why we didn't have high quality sound from our channel. My answer was, "I didn't know how and no one taught me". Until, until Mina and I figured out how to connect our rigs with her computer. Then my eyes were too old to play with the software applications and all but lucky my kid started doing most things. There are song covers we did, she did 4 or 5 instruments (not computer stuff) and i just did maybe 1 part (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zguFCskEp0U). But, on stage, sometimes the sound quality (for recording) is good, as there are technicians to help.

We still do live jamming or band practice every week, especially with other genres of music.

Here are some older ones we did when we didn't know how to record it NOT live... ;p Hope you like them. There are some really older ones from outdoor too on our channel.

Thanks for the links, I prefer the “live” recordings! Everyone has their own opinion though.

Ditto! Mina's mom says the same Smile
