For those of you who might not know who Mike Campbell is, he was the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and is also a long-time surf music fan. Ron Blair was the Heartbreakers' bassist (twice) Randall Marsh was the drummer for Mudcrutch, a Florida party band that later moved to L.A. and became Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers but with a different drummer and bassist. IMO, SURF-N-BURN was way ahead of its time because aside from one or two cuts, it is not trad surf. It fits in better with what is considered to be surf music these days, an album that you will either love or hate - no in-between. Mike is one of my all-time favorite guitarists because he understands the importance of melody and unlike many lead guitarists, he doesn't overplay. —Jack The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) Last edited: Aug 02, 2021 13:03:25 |

Wonder if they will add some reverb to the new re-release? —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

The album sure needs it! I want to like this album, but it's too dry for me. I saw Mike Campbell do a couple instrumental surf songs with Petty & the Heartbreakers, for which he had ample reverb, and it sounded great! The guy is a phenomenal guitarist. bigtikidude wrote: — Bob |

I've had the CD since it's release. A fun, retro introduction to set the stage. The music is quite good and enjoyable. I wish they would do a second CD/vinyl/download of surf music. Rev. Willis — |
