Permalink SurfyBear Metal Unit with a Tonemaster solid state amp?

New Topic

Hey guys!

I am really interested in the SurfyBear metal reverb unit, and I am unsure if it will pair well with my solid state amp. Currently I play a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster with the Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb. I am using the Ocean's 11 with the spring option and it does the job but I want a real tank.

Has anyone played any of the SurfyBear reverb units with a Tonemaster amp or other solid state amps and has any thoughts on the sound?

If Oceans 11 "does the job" with that amp, it stands to reason that SurfyBear would perform well with it. You can also return it within 14 days as long as it is in "as new" condition If you order direct from Surfy Industries. If you get it from a store, check into what their return policies are.

I use a 6G15 with a TMDR and it works just fine. I think it's worth a try!

My SurfyBear Metal works as well through my Quilter, as it does through my tubes amps. You'll be very happy with it through your Fender Tonemaster.

I use a surfybear into tonemaster deluxe reverb and it sounds great. The two work great together.

I have a Surfy Bear classic unit that I’m in love with. I normally play it through a tube amp, however for practice at night, and with headphones too, I use a Fender Champion 20 solid state amp, which on its own sounds great surprisingly. With the Surfy Bear into it, I’m not disappointed. Not a tube amp obviously but not like the solid states amps of years ago, this is a great amp. I get a “Jon & the Nightriders: Surf Beat ‘80” sound out of it with the SurfyBear. The SurfyBear makes the amp sound better, and I feel like it makes playing through a solid state amp less noticeable if that makes any sense. These new Fender solid state amps are light years better than those Line 6 things that ruled the market at one time (yuck). I don’t think you’d be disappointed. SurfyBear is such a great unit that it enhances anything it goes into. Now I can’t play any other reverb (except for real onboard Fender reverb), it’s ruined me in a good way. Get a SurfyBear, you will not believe your ears when you realize you own the real sound that is on the records. I’ve gone too many years without one and finally bit the bullet and I couldn’t be happier.

My ears a big fans of tube amps (Twin, Blues Jr, Exelsior, Bugera, etc). But my back isn't anymore. After years of lugging my Fender Twin around to gigs and rehearsals, I bought a Quilter Pro Block 200. My Surfy Bear Metal sounds great with it. But I miss the tube compression and warm break up at high volumes. I'm not a 'clean' player, I like my sound overdriven to fuzzy.

A couple of years ago, I bought a cheap pre-amp / ampmodeler from Joyo, called the American Classic. It emulates the classic brown face Fender Amps. I used it a lot to record my guitar direct into my recorder or DAW. So I tried it with the Quilter and voila: instant tube sound! A-B comparisation between my Quilter and Fender tube amps almost didn't show any differences. But I have a bigger headroom with my Quilter, so louder and more clear than a tube amp at high volume!

I use the SurfyBear Metal with solid state Quilter amps and it's fantastic.

if you cant afford a fender reverb unit, go with the surfy bear. Is the closest! You will not regret

This is my exact setup except I use a classic vibe jazzmaster.

I use the TMDR with the bright cap mod. Surfybear is nearly always on and I think it sounds great. The TM seems to work fine with all my pedals but I don't go too far; surfy, mystery brain and a hudson broadcast.
