I managed to pick up a neglected example that needs a setup and a fret polish but which is otherwise mint. While I grew up on Surf Rock (thanks to my Mom) I really only clued into offsets because of bands like Nirvana and Sonic Youth. So to me a guitar like this is welcome and no monstrosity.
There are actually three versions of this guitar. One with stealth humbuckers. One CME spec with AV65 pickups and two colors not available elsewhere. And a third which was a limited run of 500 stock with Bigsby vibratos and the same AV65 pickups.
One with Stealth Humbuckers

I hope you don't mind me sharing, I quite like this personally.

which one did you get ? Its gotta sound a bit different than a regular jazzmaster vibrato equipped model ...that length of string between the bridge and vibrato account for a good bit of the offset guitar magic .

I found a reasonably used price on the one with Stealth Humbuckers. They're a bit fuller sounding than the 65 pickups in the CME and Bigsby models but sound more like a single coil than I expected, just with a bit more low end and mid range. I've got it with a friend who is helping me get it setup better. The action was a bit high.

I just put 11s in this and have it set up with lower action with 11s. It's fantastic. I stick with my earlier assertion that the sound is more like a single coil than a humbucker. They've got a tad more oomph that a traditional JM pickup and a tad less high end, but it's still a really good sounding pickup and something someone who likes slightly hotter than vintage JM pickups might love.
