That is really great. I just love the sound of a Bass VI, and I'd wager that is what we are hearing in this song.

or those that haven't had the privilege, the Bass VI is an amazing instrument to play. It's a bass, but it plays like a guitar. Turn on all three pickups and reduce the tone control slightly and you can use it as a bass. I've played mine on gigs, as a bass.

Flip some switches, twiddle a few knobs and it becomes a very bold sounding baritone. The best part is, it plays like a guitar and can track a lead line, note for note. I recorded an instrumental version of Secret Agent Man a few years ago and added a fourth verse, where I doubled the lead line, an octave lower, with my VI. It came in subtly, almost sneaking up on the listener. It's amazing because the VI is so agile that it can track every inflection of the lead guitar. So it's a bass, but it's not a bass, all at the same time. Smile

Now you're making me wonder if I should've gone for a bass VI instead of a baritone!

I thought it through and decided that a B-B or even an A-A baritone would on,y give me an extra fourth or fifth of range. A Bass VI would give me an octave. I went with the VI and have no regrets.

Here's my YouTube playlist for Bass VI/Baritone/Low register instrumentals, with many of the above songs in it:

That's a great playlist. Gave me my minimum daily requirement of low tones, all in one dose.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The Scimitars

I dig the bass VI in this spaghetti westernish song by tortoise:

I'm glad someone mentioned Tortoise! One of my favorite videos to watch on youtue is Tortoise playing the entire TNT album live.

Also, the gentlemen who plays Bass VI in Tortoise - Doug McCombs - uses it heavily in his other projects like Brokeback, which is also really good.

Yes, I’ve watched that vid a few times. I saw them play this album live in Melbourne, Australia back in the late 90s. I found this article a while back where Doug talks about his gear: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/23525-tortoises-jeff-parker-and-doug-mccombs-slow-n-steady?page=2

The band everyone hated - Springsteen's Lucky Town/Human Touch lineup featured an unjustifiably persecuted Shane Fontayne playing incendiary lead guitar, with two songs featuring his Bass VI strung and tuned as a B-b baritone. Check them out here:

Gee whizzo flip out! I was wondering how you got that sound. I thought I was hearing a bass guitar in some songs, or maybe it was, I don't know? I'll have to try setting up a baritone guitar and check it out.

How about this?

A spaghetti western Morricone classic with iconic baritone riff, featured in Kill Bill (Bill's death scene)

Navajo Joe

As well, I just posted this new thread:

Spaghetti Western anyone? Baritone guitar content.....

Hmmmmm?
Sounds like regular guitar to me.
the range of notes, and the lack of deep tone.
