Permalink Hotdoggin' bass?

New Topic

Anybody out there know what's going on exactly with the bass in the original recording of Hotdoggin'? Any video references?

Are we talking Hot-Doggin' by the Astronauts, Hotdoggen' (a.k.a. Guitarget) by the Lively Ones, or something else...?

Want to hear what the bass is doing on the Astronauts version;-)

Wow yeah, that's a busy line! I found it a bit easier to hear by listening to the right channel only, and using a low-pass filter around roughly 200Hz - this clears up a lot of the mush in the low mids.

I might have a go at transcribing it when I get some time.

Dudes, I've generated a track exactly how MartinB described but how to send/avail it to those interested? The email on here doesn't have a function for attaching a file, as far as I can tell.

Might that go against the forum rules on file sharing? Uh-Oh

For this purpose, I've used Google drive. If you have a Google account, put the file at drive.google.com. Right-click the file and select 'Share.' At the bottom of the boxes that show up, click 'Change.' Next, click 'Copy link' and paste it in a post here.

You could probably also upload the file here.

If I'd stop buying old guitars to fix, I might actually learn to play.
Bringing instruments back to life since 2013.

The bass is a bit easier to hear on the Live In Japan version.

Yeah, I've seen so many bands play it live, but the bass always seems off.

Hi Martin,

Could you PM me on here with a link? Surely that's not against the rules is it?

Thanks

Chris

Thanks a bunch! Can hear it really clearly on this. Exactly what I was after.

Cheers

Cool! There are some interesting differences from the original single - most noticeably in the chorus/B-section. But also the line in the verse/A-section sounds way more major in the live recording - he never hits the minor third at all.

Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't realized that. I initially thought he basically doubled the lead line in the A section, but you're right, he's playing a major 3rd when the lead plays a minor 3rd.
Interesting bass line. I like it.
