I've never heard a surf-rock version of any Doors' songs. Are there any that I just haven't run into yet? I figured today is a good time to ask... I think it would definitely be interesting to hear.

My old band, Surf Report, used to do Riders on the Storm, but I don't think a recording exists anywhere. Dave Wronski will sometimes finish one of Slacktone's tunes with the beginning guitar part to The End. —Ryan |

Have been a Doors fan since 60's. Never have heard someone do a surf version of any. Interesting question though. have to peruse through all my doors albums and see if there are any likely candidates. —My Music recordings - http://el34world.com/Misc/Music/music1.htm |

Ray's keys were such an important part of the mix you almost have to have a combo in the mix...Five To One is a lot like DD's Death Of A Gremmie...a cool one to arrange would be The Crystal Ship or Moonlight Drive for a slide player — |

Sometimes I'll play the melody to People Are Strange in the middle of another song just for fun. If it has a good melody, it'll make a good instrumental. —Ted James |

Blind Rage and Violence do a version of Love Me Two Times retitled Who Loves You Three Ways, Baby? on their "End of Rock and Roll" album, though it's more of a Link Wray style instrumental then surf. |

The Surf Coasters did "Light My Fire" with a guest vocalist ... but it's not very good. —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

The Finks' take on Similau has a definite Manzarek feel. |

We (the bull kelp surfers) did Riders in the storm live at the whangamata beach hop main stage last month complete with rain/storm sound effects. Went down well. |

Check Out "Light It Up" by the Mermen. The chord progression is very similar to the middle, guitar solo section of "light my Fire". I would guess that the title of the song indicates a tip-of-the-hat to the Doors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvokPTVv-Xg —Bob |
