Permalink Quarantine Video: The Scimitars - Bari Simone played on a Bass VI

New Topic

A little "quarantine video" I made yesterday evening, to try my Bass VI after I improved its setup.
I recorded it over a sketch I did for my band The Scimitars. I miss playing with these guys...
Still figuring out the best way to do these with a webcam and an open-source video editor.

Super cool. Love it.

Love it! Do you have links to more Scimitars or other material?

Thank you both!
Here is one we played back in November:
The song is yet unnamed, we refer to it as Sazmaster since it's played on my microtonal Jazzmaster.

You can also see a few live/rehearsal videos on our Facebook page

Thanks for sharing Ran, great sound ! The bass VI fits your band's style so well. Just by curiosity, what did you do to improve the setup ? I have a Squier Bass VI too, and have not taken the time to set it up correctly yet.

Thanks, this was from the 2018 member Jam, a few months before our first Official show at Winter Surf Fest. We played the same song even better at the 2019 show, but I don't have a shareable video for it. Maybe Dave F has it somewhere, if he didn't delete it.

Thank you!
I shimmed the neck, adjusted the truss-rod. Then I tried to flip the stock bridge to see if I can improve the intonation. It sort of worked, but then started rattling. So I took a spare Staytrem bridge I had (not the wide Bass VI version), and it was better. Then I lowered the bridge pickup a tiny bit since it's super hot. Afterwards I tried finding a stiffer tremolo spring, I didn't find one, but I tried a stock AVRI guitar tremolo unit and it was better.

Cool, thanks for the details ! My main problem is the intonation, maybe I'll try to swap the bridge too. And trim the frets that are too sharp !

The Bass VI sounds so good. Looking forward to the day there is an official release. How is the microtonal guitar set up?

Thanks Mike!
Covid-19 really got in the way of any official recordings.

Here is the Microtonal Jazzmaster a.k.a Sazmaster:

The guitar is tuned a full step down, so some of the strings correspond to the Saz strings.
