You guys are experts on shipping discs from US to EU and Mexico. What carrier is preferred and how do you calculate costs?

Tom,
When Steve released the Reverb Junkies dvd,
Some were saying the shipping to Europe or other countries was too high.
So he made it available as a Digital Download.

I'm back to the square one here. I was using first class rates on the kickstarter. I'm not at all comfortable with using first class, would have lost a lot of money on that one.

Priority rates are at least double. Doesn't seem like it's worth it to international buyers. Maybe when bundling with discs? $35 to $39 for most countries.

Package and ship it as I ship CDs internationally, as shown in my Bandcamp site on this page for the Space Force album.

See the section on the page under the subheading "Space Force Limited Edition CD in plain case. International orders only."

The special knowledge you need to do this is the obscure fact that USPS considers CDs and DVDs documents. Therefore you can ship them one at a time by first class mail declaring nonmachinable contents on the outside of a half-letter size envelope thinner than 1/4" weighing 3 oz or less for just a few dollars. To Mexico and Canada it's less than $2.

Curious as to why this thread popped up suddenly w/o a new post to bump it?

And...I can't send a CD in a flat package that weighs less than 3 oz to Canada or Mexico for less than $2 (it appears to be about $15 now, which is outrageous). Is the "key" to simply write "nonmachinable contents" on the outside of the package? I never heard of that and does it also work for EU or Asia-bound CDs as well?

I think the least expensive way to do it is USPS Media Mail

Can't send CDs/DVDs overseas via Media Mail. That's only good for domestic mail.

Media Mail rate for a CD weighing less than 3oz within the US is now at $3.19.

I think international shipping is expensive everywhere now.

It certainly is much more expensive to send out of country for Canada as well. The shipping expense for buying international music for me has me buying mostly digital now.

That explains that. Thanks. I'm still curious about:

If the DVD has the US region code (1), no.
If the DVD is region free (0), yes.
Blu-ray discs have separate region codes.
Multi-region DVD/blu-ray players eliminate this issue.

I used to subscribe to The Continental, but the costs to ship to the UK make it uneconomical. If it was digital, it would be feasible
