Permalink better for recording: vintage 64 reverb unit or surfybear metal?

New Topic

My band is recording a demo tomorrow and I have the option of bringing my surfybear metal or my 64 Fender reverb unit. I am thinking the reverb unit is a little more vintage sounding; but it also seems a little noisier. Just wondering if you guys could suggest which would be better for recording. Thanks!

Noise is relative. Noise gates or selective EQ can help. Sometimes the noise even adds to the recording eg Jet, Are you gonna be my girl. A few years back our band recorded our first album. One of the guitar amp was mildly buzzy - made worse when the fuzz kicked in. Didn't matter a whole lot until we did an exotica type ballad. THEN the buzz really sucked! On the other hand, is the noise on your unit indicative of a deeper problem about to get worse? Would recommend bringing the Surfy Bear along at least as insurance. Sometimes the in house reverb options aren't as painful as some would have you believe. Good luck!
