Just curious what other types of genres you guys play.
When I started out playing guitar I was all about shredding and 80’s rock. I do play some of that now and then, but my main focus now is Surf.
I’ve also gotten into some Bluegrass flatpicking lately and try to work out some fiddle tunes when I have the time.

I started by playing death/thrash metal in the late 80's. I've been in five rock cover bands since then, performing on keys and guitars. Video below, I'm on the left side of the stage.

Hi, I'm Gellert, guitarist for The Fintastics.

https://www.facebook.com/TheFintastics

I've been playing with Gypsy jazz for the last 10-15 years. There is some overlap with surf. I get second looks when I play a gypsy melody over an Am chord - lots of them in surf music I understand.
The guitars are quite different from the typical acoustic. The "arch" tops are "stressed on" as opposed to being carved. This gives the guitars a lot of midrange and not a lot of bass or treble response. The string action is also a bit higher so it's a good "exercise" guitar.

There is a wealth of instruction in books and on Youtube. It is a quite different guitar discipline.

I started playing classical guitar and then played primarily blues. I then fooled around with jazz for a while.

I recently got back to playing classical and am really enjoying it. Right now I play that and surf almost exclusively- I find it doesn't pay to stretch yourself too thin.

Surf, electronic, experimental instrumental. So much to discover Big Grin

Various strands of 60's garage rock, old country (Johnny Cash mostly), some blues, folk, 80's college radio stuff, early punk, and such. I pretty much dabble in all those things and come up with my own stuff that mixes in those components in various ways.

Guitar wise pretty much anything (except for classical) with more time spent on Jazz. I’m also working on the Dobro, and Lap Steel; playing a variety of stuff.

Hard Rock, Metal, Melodic, Punk have always been there but surf is all I play these days. Here's where I was in 2010. I still love playing my strats through Marshall amps for the love of crunch.

Started in the end of 80th with some hard rock/heavy metal stuff (something like GnR meets Metallica with Iron Maiden and some buddies from Motorhead and Ac/Dc)))
In the end of 90th moved to some blues stuff and then to rockabilly/psychobilly
From 2007 purely concentrated on surf (surely play home some metal, rock or blues for fun) but also play some horror punk/horror surf stuff and think of the project in this style)

I do not find this band really interesting, but this cover is really good, Gellert!

I recently put together a record that is not surf at all. Although I did play my surf guitars on it. https://andremaguire.bandcamp.com/releases

Although all of them being related to surf music, we started three non-surf guitar instrumental side projects some 10 years ago: The Excelsiors (early '60s Euro-instro), The Angry Breed (mid '60s biker movie fuzz guitar instro), and The Royal Vikings (early '60s Northwest R&B instro).
