Let's see those guitars! The June 14 session. (Sorry, da-Ron. I'm still too much of a newbie with Zoom to know know when it requires a password, but I'll be sure to post it in the future.)

Just in case it comes up again and the regular password doesn't work - if someone gives a Zoom link, click it and note the URL - I copy it into a textfile. For June 14, the link was

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82287096927?pwd=NEViRm5ETDdXT20xbGx1b3gzUnpkUT09#success

The relevant string is 82287096927?pwd=NEViRm5ETDdXT20xbGx1b3gzUnpkUT09

From this, you can extract the meeting credentials as:

Meeting ID: 82287096927
Password: NEViRm5ETDdXT20xbGx1b3gzUnpkUT09

I downloaded the Zoom client some time ago - so I start it up, and when it asks for a Meeting ID, I just copy/paste it in, at which point it prompts for the password, which again I copy/paste.

See y'all next week, Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise.

Chicken Tractor Deluxe - hardcore Americana - Facebook and Website
The Telegrassers - semi-electric bluegrass/Americana - Facebook

Hey there da-ron. I don't know why you couldn't join us. I didn't host today's meeting but you should have still been able to join. Sometimes ZOOM will ask/not ask for a password. When a password is set up beforehand by either me or Silverflash, people sometimes join in without being prompted to enter that password...really weird. I don't know why that is.

Our next meeting is set for Father's Day, Sunday, June 21st - same time as usual. I am providing the ZOOM link this time around and the password is still SG101 if ZOOM gives you a prompt. I hope you can join us - we love seeing new faces and would like to get our meeting up to 12+ people, which would set a new record Big Grin

Surf's up! Cool

Feel free to join us today. Surf music talk - surf guitar talk - you name it!

Hi, I'm Gellert, guitarist for The Fintastics.

Thanks to everyone for attending today's SG101 Zoom meeting!

We are going to try something different for the next several Zoom meetings. Themes! Starting June 28th, we will have a specific theme that everyone can talk about and share with others. This way, we will have a common topic before we start our meetings so it's a bit more structured.

What band or artist made an early impression on you that led you to become a surf music fan? This will be our topic for discussion at our next Zoom meeting. Everyone will have the opportunity to relate their own experiences and to share their memories.

So let's see some new faces - let's hear your stories - let's unite and tell one another that magic moment where surf music changed your lives! (Well, maybe not so dramatic Laughing )

We encourage anyone that hasn't been to one of our ZOOM meetings to join, or at least, ask two other SG101 members to join along with you.

Tried and failed, again! No idea what I'm doing wrong, or what I did right the first time!

Have fun, anyway. Agent Orange got me into surf music.

Our next ZOOM meeting is scheduled for Sunday, July 5th, 2020.
Topic of discussion will be "what was the best surf music event you attended" or "which surf show was the most memorable"?

I encourage everyone to join us, even if just for a few minutes!

Thanks, Andy! Too bad you can not join, our discussions are always a very fun time.

On that note - I would like to encourage anyone to join our Sunday video discussions. I understand not everyone wants to be on camera or be seen. That's understandable. However, we never discuss politics or other "non-surf-related topics". You'd be with friends with the same interests.

Also, I see dozens of the same people posting and replying to threads; making active use of the SG101 forum. It'd be nice if those same people would spend a few minutes on ZOOM with us - at least to connect as a fan of the genre.

Perhaps members of Surfer Joe, Mystery Men, Razor Blades, Insect Surfers, Satan's Pilgrims, Frankie and the Pool Boys etc. can join and we can promote that ahead of time so others can drop in to say hello.

Just throwing it out there Big Grin

Glad I made the effort to sort out the issues I was having, these are good fun.

I recommend anyone to join in. If you don't want to be on video, just put a photo up instead.

Thanks for hosting these zoom get-togethers, it's nice to chat about music!

John Jorgenson is the fastest I've heard at playing a surf guitar piece. Here is a video recording of his rendition of the Shadows' "Man of Mystery" with extra notes--lots of extra notes--but just the right number. Only the first video shows his actual performance of this song, however just part of it. The second video is an audio recording of the entire song. Jorgenson was the leader of "The Hellecasters" instrumental electric guitar band. The band consisted of three guitar virtuosos plus unnamed bass and percussion accompanyists. Jorgenson was to the Hellecasters as Lennon was to the Beatles, but as with the Beatles the whole was more than the sum of the parts.
