It's really just resistor and cap values, I think. Open these up and cycle back and forth. http://www.thevintagesound.com/ffg/schem/bandmaster_6g7-a_schem.gif https://www.gad.net/Blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/1963-Bassman-6G6B-Schematic1.jpg |

Thanks! Reading schematics is above my head. I'm guessing some pretty intricate changes that possible effect both circuits? —The Kahuna Kings https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Kahuna-Kings/459752090818447 |

What Redfeather said is true unless you are talking about the first iteration models of the amps. The 6G6 Bassman that came out in 1960 had a tube rectifier, either GZ34 or 5AR4 while the Bandmaster has solid state. That amp was short-lived and Fender went to SS rectification in the 6G6-A Bassman in, I think, early '61 or maybe late '60. The 6G7 Bandmaster that came out in 1960 had 3x10 speakers, but that, too was short lived, before going to a ported 1x12 and then a closed back 2x12. Since those first-iteration amps from 1960 are rare you are essentially talking about very similar amps. |

I have both amps. When stock 6G6-B Bassman's normal channel is tighter with less mids (low mids!) when compared to blonde Bandmaster. In some sense it is a step towards blackface but unmistakably brownface if that makes sense. I have slightly modified the normal channel on 6G6-B (changed/installed 2 caps and 2 resistors I think) and it sounds almost the same as the normal channel of 6G7-A. Modified 6G6-B has just a little bit more headroom and is punchier due to the bigger transformer. Last edited: Jul 01, 2020 04:35:22 |
